Re: [Sansevierias] OT Happy Belated Shavuot

Don't forget agaves. What an interesting plant. Speaking of south east, the one plant I really miss from our time living in Tennessee is kudzu. It's green almost 9 month out of the year and it grows a foot a day at least. What I wouldn't give to see if it would grow in a pot here in CA. I'd not want to see it spread across the state, but it would be fun to grow inside nonetheless. I know it sounds kooky, but I really loved that plant and it can also be used to treat alcoholism.

I love it!

Thanks Rhonda. Some of the best off topic of the day.

Boy I feel like we've been wined and dined today. Interesting music, new plants unseen before, babies, puppies, kittys. And Sans.

Scott, this is the South eastern equivalent of the snow plant, called Squaw Root, or conpholis americana (picture poached from Wiki). Mike introduced me to this weird beauty about 15 years ago. There's always weird and interesting  stuff coming up in the woods.

It would be nice to include what are plants are used for,  medicine, food, rope, etc.  I hope the rest of you will report what you have read.  I am interested but know if any one else is. Norma

That is SO strange. I love it.
We can barely comprehend the diversity of life on this planet, let alone theorize about other worlds.
I always smile when I read about the search for signs of life elsewhere in the universe. I think it's great we're looking, but I wonder if we'll even recognize it when it's staring us in the face.

[Sansevierias] Unusual growth or damage?

This plant has me baffled. I was under the impression from reading different books and websites that the offsets grow taller as they mature which would theoretically mean that the taller growth is younger than some of the smaller growth. I was also in the impression that Sans revert back to green and not the other way around. So here is my plant with the variegated leaves taller than the green and a funky leaf growing out the side. This has me completely baffled it's almost like one side of the leaf grew twice as fast as the other. It doesn't look damaged to me though. The vatiegation is also a pale green and not a nice yellow on this leaf.

Looks like S.t. 'Laurentii ' to me. Not to worry. The variegation on
your young leaf will gain more yellow for you as the leaf gets older.

its just a normal variegation "VARIANT" which can spring up at any time. and with time the yellow will get yellower, this is what happens in tri laurentii and others of its kind.

I meant to thank you for sending us that song by the Rabbi,  it is extremely creative, and it was thoughtful for you to do so for all of us Norma

Re: [Sansevierias] OT Happy Belated Shavuot

For all of the doubtful Thomas's,  my S. masoniana, started out green the only variegated growth, I gave to Jo,  now all of the leaves have turned variegated, and their is only one green growth in the whole pot.  Norma
