Re: Sansevieria aubrytiana??

Hi John and list,
This is Labor day weekend so I expect things will be quiet on most of the lists.
However, I am at home on a rainy day so made a folder called "Faye's" with three Sans.
First are two photos of my Bally 12681.
Next two of S. aubrytiana. Longest leaf on this is 23", width 4". Smooth surface. This has not bloomed for me,
came from the Huntington via Norma (thanks so much!).
Finally two photos of S. fasciata, which I thought might be your aubrytiana, John, but now I'm not so sure.
Longest leaf is 23", width 2 1/2". Leaf surface smooth, also more of a red/brown margin than the aubrytiana.
This has not bloomed for me either yet, another Huntington plant.
Well, anyway, any comments or suggestions welcome. Sometimes it's hard to compare one plant with another
due to differences in cultivation. You can see on the photo of Bally 12681 where some leaves are quite
longer than most, probably due to being indoors in low light when they developed, I imagine.

Take care,
Faye
Norfolk VA where we had no rain all summer and now are getting much needed relief!

Some of you might remember back on the old original Sansevieria list that I asked about a Sansevieria I had
under the name Sansevieria aubrytiana that it is obviously not. Well it has just put out the start of a
flower stalk only about 2" long right now. I have taken some pictures of the plant and close ups of the leaves
in the pictures section under the album John's.

The leaves are up to 31" long and 2" to 3.25" wide at the widest. Leaf sheaths up to 5"long white papery. The
leaves are smooth and waxy to the touch both the top and underside of the leafs. Leaf edges reddish-brown.

Photos of Sansevierias.

I'm going to buy a digital camera soon. What's the
'pixel' rating on your cameras? I understand it should be
at least 2 to take pictures with good definition. The pictures
I see of all your sansevierias seem to be very good.

I don't have an aubrytiana. Anyone have an offset to trade?
Have a Sans from you, Faye, that I thought might be it,
but think I have it labelled as possibly 'Masai'.

Re: Photos of Sansevierias.

Hi Russ,
Good to hear from you. My camera is a Fuji Finepix 2600Zoom, 3X Optical Zoom. It is 2.0 megapixels.
I, too, waited to get a digital camera. Didn't know what to get, hated to spend so much money and maybe get one I
was not happy with. Finally read a little about it on the web. Did a google search and found some digital
camera comparisons and basic requirements. Went to Circuit City and got a sales person to help and have
been happy with the result. I'm not the best photographer, but pictures are so quick, you can just retake
and adjust for light and other conditions. You will love it when you get one.
I had a Sans. from you, Russ, which also was a little similar to John's aubrytiana, I thought. I think it was
labeled #7. Too dark to go outside now, will check later.

Re: Sansevieria aubrytiana??

Dear John and All,

I'm agreed with Faye, that John's aubrytiana can be fasciata. I send you also some picutres of my fasciata
and aubrytiana wich I made with my DC 2,3 mega pixels right now.

About the digital camera: my camera is 2,3 mega pixels. This is very good for all photos but I think a camera
with 1,3 mega pixels is able to make exellent pictures of plants.

Best wishes from Hungary

Eve

Re: Sansevieria aubrytiana??

The Digital camera I use is an old Nicon coolpix 600
       Max resolution 1024 x 768
       Low resolution 512 x 384
       Image ratio w:h 4:3
       Effective pixels 0.8 million

It has a normal,Fine, wide angle, zoom and 2 macro settings, and a multi picture setting.
Trond that thing behind the Sansevieria is a Cordaline palm. Two years ago it was about 18 foot tall but the
centre rotted off in the winter so I cut it down to about 3 foot and that is what I now have. Looks very Yucca
like I think. The flowers stink though.

Re: Photos of Sansevierias.

Dear Russ

Just a little about buying a digital camera.

We're using an Olympus C-1Zoom. This is not a new model but we could
get it at a reasonable price. It has 1,3mio pixels and one of the
best features is the 3x optical zoom, which we find very useful when
taking pictures of plants.

It's a good idea to buy a camera and we are looking very much forward
to see pictures from you.

Best wishes
Lone and Henrik
