Trond & Plants :)

Hi to everybody I know and those I dont :).

atleast show you whats going
on up here in the north....

There's been a few flowerings, some rare for me, and I just wanted you all
to see the pictures
I've taken off all my beauties.

There are Sedums, Sempervivums, Sansevieria and Mammillaria's that are
flowering from this
season, but also other planst around the house and garden.

I have this weird crested Sempervivum that is about to flower, I'm gonna go
out right now and
try to get a decent picture closeup of it....

Hope you're all fine, and enjoy the pictures, feel free to leave comments
when you look at the
pictures, because I may not be able to check my mail every day, but I do
wanne check the
comments in my album in the days ahead :)

http://public.fotki.com/cactus/2004/ holds the latest pictures.

http://public.fotki.com/cactus/ Shows you the full album with 2500+

Sansevierias and other pics

Hi!

Please see Photo section, Sansevieria, for the three I recently got.

See albums Calibanus (Doug Rowland about C. hookeri: "The most
untidiest plant on earth") and Hesperaloe for some other pics.

In Unknown I have put a pic of Ornithogalum; it is off topic, but so
much alike the others. Can be removed of course.

Feel free to use these pics, and if you wish to have a copyright line
use "Copyright Maarten van Thiel, Tolbert, Netherlands, 2002".
(I do realise though that it is poor quality...:-(

Nice sunday,

Maarten

Irish Book/Agave multifilifera

Hi All and especially the Irishes. I just received my copy of their book
(via mail order source) and I am very impressed with it. Well done I say!
I do have one question already though. The photo of Agave multifilifera
(Plate 24), is that really multifilifera? Or did it get mixed up and is
really Yucca glauca, or such? The reason I ask is that I saw a pretty good
sized multifilifera at Greg Starr's and it did not have anything like the
semblance of a trunk. Since agaves are monocarpic I am surprised that
multifilifera would reach this size (the size of the plant on Plate 24) and
not have already flowered. Puzzlement indeed. Help Mary and Gary!

specie--fingernails on chalkboard!

Dear Michael, at the risk of being pedantic, I would like to point out that
the word "specie" is not the correct word for a singular taxon. Species is
correct for both singular and plural. The word "specie" refers to currency.

photo from Portugal

Michael,

I have no idea about the identification of your plant; I'm a rank beginner. I have traveled to Portugal
several times. Was this plant in the Botanical Garden in Lisbon? There were so many big beautiful plants
there. Unfortunately each time I've gone there the greenhouses have been closed. Have I missed the cactus
and succulent plants... or were they not there? I'd like to go again sometime.

Sansevieria

Hi!

Was sailing a week, went to the isle of Texel to see the flowering
Agave parrasana again (now just seed pods; look like bananas) and
returned from that visit with cuttings of Sansevieria volkensii,
aethiopica and spec Bally 12681.

Anyone familiar with these plants? Very beautifull. I might have one
or two cuttings of the last two sp (volk. being just two big leaves)
in some months; I mean: could take them off already but I prefer to
let the things root well first.

Volk. is as said a big long thing and the two others a kind of heap
of very tought and well end spined plants. I had them in a plastic
bag hanging from my bag when returning from sea, spines sticking out
at all sides. With that I had to get in and out of completely
overcrowded trains and busses. Never had so much rows on a single
day...

Nice sunday,

Maarten
