Port monitoring on Tru64

Does anyone know a way to monitor traffic on a
particular port with the tools that come standard, or
with additional software?  I am trying to use tcpdump
on a particular port, but I am gettig no data.  I am
currently just doing a tcpdump on the entire
interface.  We have traffic coming in a particular
port that is crashing the system, so I'd like to know
anything I can about it (preferably , which
users/accounts are coming in).

Tru64 to Linux (RH4) migration

I'm finishing up a series of migrations from Tru64 5.1b servers to RH4
Linux on Proliant DL140, DL360, DL380 and DL385s. 

The services that I've moved are things like Oracle 9i and 10g databases
(RAC), WebLogic 8.1 applications, sendmail (to qmail, sendmail or
postfix), NFS servers, jabber IM servers. The environment consists of
lights-out configurations using serial-line consoles, remote access and
monitoring, Storageworks NSPOF dual-fabric boot from SAN (no local disks
in Proliant) SAN-based tape and disk-to-tape backups, remote disaster
recovery capability via remote copy, etc.

How much interest would there be in a series of white-papers on these
types of migrations and configurations?

Tru64 5.1 - PAK Installation ... ?

Hello Admin Wizards,

one more question regarding the PAK Installation in True64 5.1b.

I have the machine up, running and online and can access it using ssh 
(Exceed/CDE does not work yet, perhaps because of the license problem).

Now I need to install the PAKs. I have the PAK CD with the Campus 
Licenses, and under CDE this is a breeze ... but in a shell window?
Am I supposed to start the lmf and enter all the details _manually_?
I cant imagine that.

If anyone has a hint where to copy the files from the PAK CD to have 
them activated, I would be grateful.

Userpassword form in LDAP auth

hello,

I saw many thread on LDAP in this list but none answered completly my
question.

I have installed LDAP auth on tru64/5.1B via SIA and OSFLDPAUTH540.

The only documentation I found about acceptable form of password
attribute was for InternetExpress. It described this form as classical
"{encryption}encrypted_string" but after some tests I realized that
the client only accepted the form "encrypted_string" (without the
encryption type specification) and with "CRYPT" encryption type.

It is disturbing since the LDAP server is also used for others hosts
which rely on classical form. Of course, I could create an other
attribute just for Tru64 but it will imply pb for password
synchronization.

Is there somewhere a complete technical documentation on LDAP auth
with OSFLDPAUTH540 ?

Is there a solution to make LDAP auth recognize the classical password
form ?

PS: in fact, it will be great, if LDAP auth would rely on LDAP server
bind and not on fetching crypted password string.

SUMMARY: Tru64Server Alpha 8200 reassembly / Raid Controller Problems

Hello Admin Wizards,

for some reason this summary was not spread on the list. I try to post 
it again.

Barker, Joe Carrico, Benjamin Ingwersen and Zoong Pham

Nikola Milutinovic, Martin Koerfer and Shawn Cromer

who provided me with additional Information on the MYLEX DAC 960 (aka
KZPAC) Raid COntroller.

a) Consensus was that is is generally possible to use at least True64
5.1a on the AS 8200 given that the firmware version is at least 6.3.

Since we have a campus license for Tru64 here I obtained the firmware
and software CD from our IT support team, installed FW 6.4 and Tru64 5.1b.
After installing the system booted without problems; I have, however,
the challenge before me to install the PAKs from the PAK CD (where,
amongst literally dozens of PAKS the OSFBASE PAK seems to be missing).
One more thing will be to get the X-Demon to work - I installed the
machine using the serial console on the front panel and would be happier
if I could use my Exceed Server from the desktop computer now.

use the 'lmf register' command, thats what the CDE wrapper uses
as well.  I usually use

# lmf register < text_file.pak

to register whatever is in that text file.

As Johan Brusche pointed out, the syntax is NOT

# lmf register < text_file.pak

BUT:

# lmf register - < text_file.pak

changing ipc values at runtime

Hi ,
     It has been a while I have posted here . I 'm sitting miles from my Server and I need to restart the server.
       Is it possible to change ipc values at runtime or do I have to reboot the system . Is it possible to know
which values in sysconfigtab can be modified without rebooting . 
I'm using tru64 v5.1a  pk4.

HD Problems with Tru64 Server / AS 8200

Hello Admin Wizards,

one remaining problem:

The AS 8200 has optional internal HDs - up to four on the back and one 
on the front side, just beside the TLSB Cage.

I received the system with one HD in the uppermost slot on the backside 
and the CDR. They are connected to ISP3 and show up if I issue a show 
dev at the SRM prompt like that:

pkd.7.0.5.0 (the termination I suppose)
dkd0.0.0.5.0 (the RZ28 HD)
dkd400.4.0.5.0 (the CDR)

Now I supposed that if I inserted other RZ28 HDs in the remaining free 
slots they should show up like that:
dkd1.1.0.5.0
or something like that. But they dont; in fact, the do not show up at all.

Installing Tru64 5.1b was a breeze, and the system works perfectly - but 
I would really prefer to have a backup for my bootdisk (I planned to do 
  a dd once the other identical disks are recognized).

Any hint would be appreciated.
