Jammed tape magazine

Greetings,

Came in the morning to find my 72-144 Gbyte 4mm DDS-3 Autoloader with a read
error on it. Managed to get the tape rewound but now the magazine won't eject.
Tried the "Force Eject" method and that still doesn't work. The user guide
just isn't clear on how to get the magazine out. Note: I also see "Error 36"
in the display but can't find anything relating to this on docs.sun.com.

Any ideas?

A3500/RM 6.22 problem deleting LUN

Setup is:
Server: 220R

OS: Solaris 9

Raid Manager: 6.22.01.54

Controller: A3500
Product revision: 0301
Boot Level: 03.01.04.00
Firmware Level: 03.01.04.75

Drive Cabinets: 3x D1000 (8 bay)
Drives: 24x Seagate ST173404LCV

I installed Solaris 9 (full except for OEM) from the current available
download from Sun. Then installed Raid Manager, likewise the current
available download from Sun.

The array was initially configured with 18 ST173404LCV drives. I was able
to install the drives, add them to a group and create LUN1 using them 17 of
drives plus the 18th as a hot spare with no problems.

I just received 6 more drives and wanted to recreate LUN1 using 23 + 1
spare. The problem is, whenever I try to delete LUN1 I receive an error
saying that LUN1 cannot be deleted due to it being mounted or in use or
being modified or being restructured. I have not mounted the LUN and there
is no drive activity so I don't believe it is in use or is being
restructured or modified.

RSM 214 sparc storage array on sparcstation 4/5

Sun Experts --
I have recently acquired a sun rsm 214 storage array with a unisys uw
to differential controller card (I think) and 7 9.1GB compaq drives. It
powers on properly, and the drives appear to be functional (I have tested a
few by plugging them into the internal sca connector in the sparcstation),
however when I plug the external cable connected to the sparcstation HD 50
pin external connector into the rsm 214's HD 68 pin connector my internal
hard drive is no longer accessible. This is the case whether the rsm 214 is
powered or not. Further, I cannot access any of the drives within the rsm
214. For example, with the cable disconnected from the rsm 214 I get the
following:

ok probe-scsi-all
/iommu <at> 0,10000000/sbus <at> 0,10001000/espdma <at> 4,8400000/esp <at> 4,88000
Target 3
DCAS32160SUN2.1GS65A97326B6934
0933 00011673H7732
E60259

However, with the cable connected I get only the following:

ok probe-scsi-all
/iommu <at> 0,10000000/sbus <at> 0,10001000/espdma <at> 4,8400000/esp <at> 4,88000

The unisys card within the rsm 214, which I understand to be an
ultrawide to differential card, has the 68 pin connector on the back and
slides out when two thumbscrews are loosened. The card has one configurable
jumper labeled JP1. I'll use colons to represent the pins; stenciled on the
card is the following key --

Since you're connecting to a machine that already has a drive at ID3,
have you tried setting the ID3 jumper? It's the first thing I'd try
given this situation.

The port on the back of an RSM array is differential, even though it
isn't labelled as such.

I thought a 214 SSA was a box that did FC->SCSI, and then a bunch
of SCSI RSM arrays hanging off of that? You're just talking about
one of the RSM SCSI arrays though, right?

I have two RSM arrays. They're nice, but the chassis is pretty
cheap. They're rebadged Unisys hardware.

If you have the optional environmental card, you can get temp
reports, and control the red LEDs above each disk through software.

ntpdate differs by 1 hr

Hello,

In a E250 running Solaris 5.8, I have tried ntpdate, and it yields 1
hour from the local time, i.e.:
# date
Wed Apr 12 10:49:55 WEST 2006
# ntpdate 134.214.100.6
12 Apr 09:49:41 ntpdate[3938]: step time server 134.214.100.6 offset
-3625.543291 sec
The correct time should be 10:49:41

set yields:
TZ=WET

In another E250 running Solaris 5.6, ntpdate shows correct time. set
yields:
TZ=MET

As I live in Sweden, I presume TZ should be set to WET. Am I wrong ?
Should I change TZ to MET ? Where do I change TZ ?

Regards,

Marek

You are correct sir, the RSM I have is a 7 port scsi array.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I did try that. I also tried removing the
drive at ID3, but I still got the symptoms described in my previous post.

You're trying to use the scsi controller on the motherboard? You need
a differential (HVD) controller. They're not compatible.

RSM 214 sparc storage array on sparcstation 4/5

David --
Thanks for your reply. I'm feeling quite ignorant now -- I didn't
realize the RSM differential HVD wouldn't direct connect to the SE coming
out the back of the sparcstation. Do you think it would be worth it to buy
an adapter, or should I just forget it and use the drives individually? I
don't know anything about their reliability or cost, although I wouldn't
want to spend much more than $40 or so. Thanks for the advice.

Re: ntpdate differs by 1 hr

Changing TZ from WET to CET, and a following reboot solved my problem.

Thank you for your reply.
