Hello people,
 I have a sparc 5 machine running solaris 8 and I'm trying to install  star office52, had so many problems so
what are the steps or where can I get some info on this regard. The software came from Sun microsystem on a CD.

It's not a part of Solaris, but the "scsiinfo" program will tell you what
disks are attached, or, with different options, what their sizes are.

The output is really designed for humans, rather than scripts, but you could
grep/awk/sed through the output fairly easily to produce the reports you
need.

That's assuming you have SCSI disks on your Ultra 5s ... if they have IDE
disks, I don't suppose scsiinfo would be too useful, but maybe there's an
"ideinfo" or other IDE equivalent.

If all else fails, you could use the output from "dk -k", appropriately
sorted, and use awk to get the totals.

This script doesn't do what you want, but it does show you how to get the
totals:

Urgent !! Help , Can Login on SUN OS 5.7

Hi 

   i am running Sun os 5.7 , it was working great till
now , but since last 2 days i am facing wiered
problem,

i am not able to "su -" to the system , i can telnet
on the system and login with normal uid , but when i
gives "su -" it asks for password , and then just gets
hang no responce at all , even i tried going to the
terminal and tried to open the console/terminal window
locally on the mechine but that also is not working 

can some one tell me what could be the reason for this
and how can i restore it back to normal state 

pls reply asap
as m really in big problem as m still learning solaris
and new to it

My guess would be that something in the .profile.

Try doing just `su`. If this works I would look into what is in root 
.profile.

both su and su- gives same results , imean its simply
getting hung after i type the password

urgent !! su not working , output of truss attached

Hi all 

  su or su - on my system is not working , its running
on sparc-solaris 7 , m enclosing out put of truss
command kindly point me where the error is , i checked
th path etc things and everything is normal i mean no
