Hi,

We have an e450 running solaris 8. We would like to disable CDE for our
programmers. We don't want 20 programmers chewing up resources with
Exceed CDE logins from their pc. Instead we would like them to open up
xterms using exceed.

We would still like to have CDE running on the console.

What is the best to accomplish this or can someone point me in the
proper direction.

PCI MSE-1 Modem + Serial Port Card for Solaris Systems.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Content-Type: text/plain;

Hi! Does anybody have experience with the PCI MSE-1 Modem + Serial card. We
have just put this on a E420R Solaris 2.6 Server. The Card is recognized and
I am able to connect to the modem using tip. I am dialing out to a Mainframe
and I have been able to log in once. Since then all I have got is junk
characters. Never a login prompt. I have tried all possible speeds.

The other problem I am facing is with cu. When I try to use cu with this
modem I get the ERROR message
Call Failed: CAN'T ACCESS DEVICE
Connect failed: CAN'T ACCESS DEVICE

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

Transfer of files using ZMODEM protocol on Solaris 2.6

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

------=_NextPart_000_006D_01BFE284.A8CBC430
Content-Type: text/plain;
	charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Hi! This is what I am trying to do.
I have a modem on a Solaris 2.6 E420R server. I want to dial out using this
modem to a Mainframe. Once logged in I need to run a command on the
Mainframe which prepares it for ZMODEM protocol file transfer. Then I need
to transfer a file from the Solaris server to the Mainframe using ZMODEM.
When transfer is done I need to wait till the send back a file using ZMODEM
protocol. After this the mainframe sends a disconnect signal thus breaking
the connection.

I want to automate the above so that the transfer can take place without
needing any manual intervention.
I know that I can use csz and crz to upload/download using ZMODEM protocol
but I don't know how to detect whether the connection has taken place
correctly and the remote command has been executed so that csz can be
executed on Solaris.

Is there a way to automate all this.

I heard about a software called Pro YAM for this. Any body know about this
software?

Any help will be appreciated.

net traffic

Hello all! (My first posting)

I'm not sure if I have enough experience to ask a specific enough question
so I'll just try to keep it as brief as possible....

I've just installed a Sparc 20 on my network at home. I have a lan which
is connected to my ISP via an ISDN router. I've got everything working
fine. (i.e., I can telnet and ftp to my work from home and can surf the web
and read my email from my ISP using Netscape.)

My problem is that it seems like my Sparc 20 (running Solaris 2.7) seems
to keep requesting something on the net which forces my ISDN router
to maintain a connection to my ISP. <at> $18 per day in ISDN charges
it is just a waste of money :-( (My router opens a connection shortly
after booting the workstation and if I manually force the router to disconnect
it immediately connects again.)

Is there something which I can turn off to avoid having it do this? Is
there a way I should track down the offending service so I can shut it
down if I don't need it?

Thanks in advance,

//Chuck

Re: SunHELP digest, Vol 1 #455 - 14 msgs

The trick isn't the 2.25 nor the 2.22, it's the ROSS Prom.
I've actually seen SS10's full the the gills with 32meg SIMMs,
but the tech's I was talking to said they've only made it
work by using ROSS Prom's. That's the magic trick.

(I'll have to check but I made a post to the sunrescue list
not too long ago with the revision of the ROSS prom....and
sorry, I don't know where to get one from...I'd have gotten
one myself if I did...)

Are the Ross Prom's different from the official Sun ones? None of the
documentation that I've seen or read says anything about this. In fact,
most of it implies the opposite...

prom name

Hello All,
Does anyone know what a prom name is? I've recently encountered an error
on boot that uses this expression in regards to 'converting a mount
point to a prom name'.
What gives?
Many thanks in advance, and perhaps some home-baked cookies in the mail
if you can help me,
jeremiah

Admintool

I'm trying to add a new printer on a Sparc Ultra 5.

However, when I try to start admintool as root (after I've su'd to it from a
normal user) I get an error:

"Error: Can't open display:"

I can display admintool as a normal user - but (as is the norm) don't have
permissions to to anything.

Any clues as to what's causing this? I'm guessing it's something to do with
the display variable (for user root) but don't really know where to begin.

I've tried searching the SunSolve website but haven't managed to come up
with anything yet....

I'd appreciate some help!

Howard.
