solaris net-install help

hello,

well, i took the plunge and ordered the solaris7 cds from sun. they
arrived, and since my sparcstation does not have a cdrom, i immediately
looked into net-installing it. now the problem begins. ;>

to start things off, none of the solaris net-install scripts, namely
add_install_client, do not run properly on linux. does anyone have any
information on how to setup linux to be able to net-install solaris?
or perhaps even scripts that run in linux? ;>

  any help would be appreciated.

At a shell prompt, try "/usr/sbin/psrinfo -v":

rigel:/home/users/james% /usr/sbin/psrinfo -v
Status of processor 0 as of: 08/01/99 03:30:06
  Processor has been on-line since 07/31/99 05:24:20.
The sparcv9 processor operates at 480 MHz,
and has a sparcv9 floating point processor.

or at the "ok" prompt, try "module-info" (for SS10/20/600) or ".speed"
(most of the rest).

Eugch. Grim. This must be some horrific sendmailism.
Go get exim from www.exim.org and install that, then get rid of this
horrible sendmail malarky. It is truly evil.

Is there any kind of "tool" to help me to create a mirror of a directory
(file system) located on an UNIX box to another directory (file system) on a
different UNIX box over the net ?

Thank you,

basically i'm trying to do what should be a standard install over a
network onto a sparcstation that does not have a cdrom. the
add_install_client script that sun provides on the solaris7 cd are
probably meant to run on a version of solaris, and i only have linux
machines available to me right now.

solaris net-install help

In order to use "boot net -install", you have to create an Solaris Install
Server.

You can do this by installing Solaris 7 on either a SPARC or PC, using the
adequate distribution (SPARC/x86). As far as I remember, you can use any of
these platform to create Install Servers for both SPARC and x86 platforms.

Then you must follow the steps required to setup an Install Server, as
described in your Solaris documentation (search http://docs.sun.com, if you
don't have it)

I don't remember any other way to install Solaris on a SPARC. Maybe you can
borrow an external SCSI CD-ROM. Also you can buy a SCSI CD-ROM for less than
80 $, and this will save you a lot of pain and time.

Regards,
Adrian
