I checked Solaris 10 Update 6, and it has both firefox 2.0 and
mozilla 1.7 installed.

The mozilla 1.7 browser is in package SUNWmozilla and
pkgrm SUNWmozilla removes it.

There are several packages that depend on the presence of
the mozilla browser (evolution, mozilla mail, mozilla chat,
mozlla spell checker, ...);
I'm not sure in what ways these dependant packages will be broken

You need to create a file /etc/hostname.<interface> containing the
interfaces hostname and /etc/dhcp.<interface>

eg for iprb0, as root

cat "HostName" > /etc/hostname.iprb0

touch /etc/dhcp.iprb0

Are patches free for OpenSolaris?

I purchased a copy of the Solaris x86 media. Once I got it installed, I decided to patch it. When I went to Sun
they wanted a Service Number. Are patches free on OpenSolaris?

You use the package manager for upgrades.

GNU/Linux distortions

What chance is there that the bash people will make bash behave like
/bin/sh when called as /bin/sh to save me forever having to change the
interpreter is just about every script coming out of Linux.

There are 3 main package repositories to consider here -
http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release, http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev and
https://pkg.sun.com/opensolaris/support.

Access to the first 2 is free. The release repo updates every major
release - 2008.05, 2008.11, 2009.06, etc. The dev repository usually
updates the entire OS every two weeks.

For me that (ie dev) is good enough, but if you want interim patches to
things from the release repo you need the third repo above, which
requires a paid support agreement. This got announced/discussed at
Community One yesterday, I believe.

Cheers,

Chris

Dumb question: What is the behavior that you are looking for from bash?

I use Martin Paul's PCA to patch Solaris 10 and previous versions.
You'll need to create Sun Online Account to obtain the free
recommended and security patches.
