Nothing, just 5.11.

/etc/release also shows it as "rc3",
presumably release candidate 3 and
gives a build date of April 2X, 2008.
I forget the X digit.

Sounds like the original, correct?

Re: Solaris 10 05/08 e1000g problem

This was discussed and fixed in Solaris 10u6.

Any comments on a SunFire X4150?

I need to purchase a server to provide a bit of disk and
SunRay services. May also run some math intensive (double
precision FP code) in the background. Sun offers a price
of about $4500 (US) to the educational market for a SunFire
X4150 machine:

2 quad-core Intel Xeon X5355
4x146 GB 10K SAS disks
16 GB PC2-5300 667 MHz ECC DDR2 RAM
4 GB ethernet ports (Intel)
3 yr warranty
3 open PCIe x8 slots
5 USB 2.0 ports
ELOM
etc ...

It is in a 1 RU case with 4 disk bays
occupied and 4 empty. Redundant power
supplies, up to 64 GB RAM, and so on.
Delivered with Solaris 10 but also supports
Windows Server, Linux, and VMware.

Anyone used one and care to comment?
Any experience with 2.5" 10K RPM SAS
disks?

Thanks,

Stuart

So-so.

When it works, it's a good system, fast enough (though I didn't
benchmark HPC with it).
However, they seem to have some annoying hardware issues, 2 were DOA out
of 4 received where I work, change of M/B needed. One of the two had
another change of M/B after the switch from ELOM to ILOM failed.
And the ribbon cable to the PDB broke when the tech unplugged it to
change the M/B, it seemed to be too fragile.
They also seem to have a known issue with the DVD drive, since support
changed that first thing without asking, but thar wasn't my problem.

I haven't had time to benchmark the drives, but I could run a bonnie++
on them if you want.

Overall, disappointing to spend so much time to get them to work. I hope
they'll do better in the long run.

We got one, also an EDU promo. No problems at all.

Mystery 'cpu1 feature mismatch' Diagnostic

I installed Solaris 10 10/08 without difficulty on a Dell 9100 today (on
the HCL), but am puzzled by the kernel diagnostic

   "WARNING: cpu1 feature mismatch"

which is displayed on the standard output stream at boot time and logged
to /var/adm/messages. Neither SunSolve nor Google searches yielded
anything promising. Anyone seen this before? Anyone have a clue what
it means?

Chris

The source code might be of some help.

Is it a trick, or a treat?

Both :-)

It installs smoothly, but some weird things still.
/tmp was set to 755 and owned by 59001:staff a short time after install,
and I couldn't know what happened to it.
