Thanks everyone for all your help. I've managed to define a Solaris partition on the disk and mount it. Next
week when I have more time, I will use the suggestions wrt format -e to see if I can get even closer to what I want.

Thanks again,
Warwick.

Mount network share directory..

Hi,
I have Solaris 10 x86 installed on VMware server with linux as the host OS. I have enabled a network shared
directory using samba on linux and I want to share the files with solaris guest OS.

I can view the files from a nautilus browser window in solaris using the command:
smb://192.168.x.xxx/public

but want to mount the same network directory somehow in solaris which I couldn't figure out. Can anyone help
me achieve this?

thanks,
TZ

In S10 x86 and older: Probably quick & dirty power off.

With opensolaris things have changed a bit; there is now a "tzmon"
"ACPI Thermal Zone Monitor" kernel module that monitors temperatures
in the system and this module is supposed to enable (/disable) active
cooling devices when the system gets too hot (/has cooled down).

The Opensolaris tzmon module also has some dtrace probes that can be
used with the dtrace command to monitor the acpi thermal zone
temperatures.

RE: Mount network share directory..

You'd be best off also sharing the same directory on your Linux system
using NFS, then having the Solaris OS mount it up that way.

I know what you are thinking of though; you are trying to mount up a
CIFS share to a Solaris system at some directory mount-point. In Linux
you can do this via smbmount, but not Solaris. You should use NFS, but
there is also Sharity Light for that:

Thanks Ander. I've just checked Sharity Light software but it seems it is only available for Solaris 2.6 on
intel arch. Please suggest if it can be compiled for Solaris 10?

thanks,

I don't recall hearing that they have support for SATA RAID on that system yet.

I am not online with our network right now with this system, so I can't double
check the project web site.

RE: Mount network share directory..

I've never used it or compiled it, but I would not be surprised if their
pre-compiled version for 2.6 x86 would work fine on Solaris 10 x86, as
it runs in user-space.

I'll stress again: NFS is a _far_ better solution given the server is
Linux. If the server was Windows, you'd be forced to use something like
Sharity Light, or install an NFS server on Windows.

not sure about the sharity lite...but the full blown sharity works
great on the current versions of x86. (well, okay, s10u3) i use it on
my work desktop and love it.
