Re: SharpOS

Hello Darko,

There is no guarantee that the Milestone 0.0.1 release compiles on the latest Visual Studio. I cannot provide a detailed solution for your problem, but from the sounds of it, you may be generating a kernel executable which is using newer .NET features in the IL code which are not supported by the AOT compiler. Try lowering the framework target version from the project settings if possible. I believe we were targetting .NET 2.0 but that might not be exactly the case. There is also newer code available in our Subversion repository on SourceForge.net (http://sharpos.sf.net/)

Good luck!

Dear Sir,

I've tried to compile SharpOS with VS 2010 (source has been downloaded from sourceforge.net (zip file)) unsuccessfully.
Two images has been made to show the error.
Am I'm doing something wrong ?

The main reason why I'm doing this is that I would (maybe) enroll a subject named "Embedded OS-es" which is dealing with building operating systems from entry-level and I'm considering as an option to use C# and AOT as tools for accomplishing this.

But it would be great if I could first compile it... :)
...and sorry for my bad English

Thank You

New Image File

I was wondering how to create a new image file (.img) with a new build I’ve made and do I need grub?

Thanks

New Wiki / Website

Attention Fellow SharpOS Developers and Board Members:

I got Will Lahti (xfury, one of the board here, for those that are scratching their heads and trying to remember what SharpOS is) to contact Dreamhost and fix our httpd.conf so that we can use the site.

I've gone ahead and setup DokuWiki ( http://www.sharpos.org/ , like always) because it is lightweight and appears to be running well. If you want to add content to it, you'll need to register yourself, and then contact me directly so I can mark you with permissions to edit pages. SharpOS Board Members that contact me will be given full administrative ability.

The system does *NOT* include an issue tracker. And I personally do not have the means or the time to attempt to retrieve data from what I believe is a MySQL database that Redmine was using. So this is going to be fresh content only. I will try to get some sort of issue tracking software running eventually. Any of the other board members are also welcome to spend some time on this.

Over the next few days I will be fleshing out the wiki to cover some of the basics of getting involved with the project. I'm also advertising our affiliation with MOSA. I think it needs to be clarified, and clear, that SharpOS is only on deferral until MOSA reaches further milestones. SharpOS' momentum was proving the concept, and with an AOT that we are incapable of maintaining, we are stuck in a sticky mess. But that doesn't mean that we can't move the community forward.

And then after MOSA has made the strides for SharpOS to pick back up, perhaps that is where the focus will go back to at that point.

I'll also be changing the topic in the IRC channel to direct people here.

Thanks for your attention, folks, and hang in there.

Redmine woes

We had a lot of troubles with redmine consuming too much CPU on our meager hosting setup, and I believe the hosting admins had to pull it down (as of now I get some httpd related error). I think we will need a replacement system... In the short term I think I'll set up a normal wiki and port over the redmine wiki from there, so that sharpos.org isnt totally inaccessible. We still have all of the redmine data and everything.

Keep in mind it seems few of us have time to devote to this project right now, so it may be some time before we have an actual redmine replacement.

Re: An interesting link about font rendering

Much obliged. Makes a really good read, it doesn't save us from vertical hinting though.

I wil try something new, I will try to render the font at 400 DPI regardless and forget about hinting.
