Installing ReactOS without CD...

I'm going to install ReactOS on a computer which does not have support
for bootable CD's. I can copy the install files to the target
computer's HD, but is it possible to initiate the installation
afterwards? Custom boot disk?

Hi all,
There is a very nice sideshow here
http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=487&slide=1
Something that I have not seen on reactos.org. It is a good place to point
interested people to.

Having see most of the selection of screen shots and not having installed
any of the releases this year, I can say wow, what a difference a year
makes. Well done devs.

Regards,
jh

Re: Installing ReactOS without CD...

I am also in the same boat and have a lot of non standard x86 hardware. In the past i've just been copying the EXEs and DLLs over, then running mkhive on registry files from the source code  and copying the hives over as well.

Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks,

Devin

Re: Installing ReactOS without CD...

Maybe there is a possibility to configure freeloader in a way, that it
can start a setup that's located on the harddisk, but I don't know...

Mini ReactOS distro

Fellow ReactOS explorers,

For the next release maybe we could put together a 'mini distro' for demonstration of  "the state of the ReactOS". It could for example be a system set up for QEMU with a number of applications known to run on reactos (open office, firefox, a few games...), a demonstration of the current networking capabilities, unimplemented shortcuts removed from explorer and other things that people read about on the website and on the mailing list.

There should also be a document describing how to install and test new applications and drivers.

Re: Mini ReactOS distro

I would suggest to create such a distro for the 0.3.0 release, as
1. This is one of the releases a lot of people and magazines will review
2. We don't have much time atm, and such a distro is a lot of extra work

But it is a good idea.

It would be *VERY* nice. Still it is preferable to have at least a LiveCD
version of this 'mini distro'.

List of compatable programs

I'm new to the list. But have great interest in this OS. Has someone
started a list of compatible software that can run under ReactOS?
I've been trying to get PCStudy Bible to run under Wine and with
Codeweaver and it's a no-go. And Tax time is right around the corner,
so I'm thinking about TurboTax. I'm currently running SuSE 9.3

It's difficult to keep a list as working software comes and goes as new
features are added and bugs are introduced, identified and fixed. Most basic
software runs though, and even more complex software like OpenOffice.Org.

Your best bet is to try it out.

As a general rule, if something doesn't run under Wine, it most likely won't
run under ReactOS at the moment. This will change though, the list of
working software is growing and will continue to do so until everything
works.

That's too bad. I haven't used Windoze for several months now. I
hoped to never use it again. I do really miss my Bible software. I
hate to throw $500 out the window. I've used Bibletime, but it's just
not the quality application that I'm looking for.
I have windows ME installed on a partition but I have been unable to
get it to boot.
