Mouse Problem on 0.2.6 RC2 and Qemu

Hi Everyone,

I just downloaded the 0.2.6 RC2 packaged with Qemu and gave it a try.  On the first boot up everything seems fine as I go through the initial setup however after the reboot at the end of the setup the mouse acts very strange.  Simply moving the mouse causes the cursor to jump around and act as if buttons were pressed.  This appears to be an issue with the packaged version of Qemu as running with the 0.2.6 RC2 disk image under the version of Qemu included with 0.2.5 works fine.  Also, I tried the disk image with Qemu 0.6.1 as downloaded from http://www.freeoszoo.org/download.php and did not have the problem.  I am running on Windows 2000.

Re: Mouse Problem on 0.2.6 RC2 and Qemu

I had that problem when I first tried 0.2.6 RC1 Qemu package and the
solution is simply to not move the mouse while it is loading up the
desktop. Once it is loaded you should not have a problem.

ReactOS 0.2.6 Released!

The 0.2.6 version of ReactOS is available for download from reactos.com!

As always a new release brings increases in speed, stability and compatibility.

The next release, 0.3, will feature many improvements - but most
notably somewhat usable networking.

Many thanks to all the developers that made this release possible.

EU and patents

Jason, Casper, Gé, should we move the SVN server off EU?
Is there a free place left in the world?
Did M already win (no sue needed)?

I don't see what difference that would do. If we can't use ReactOS in the EU and US legally, then what good is it
really? I believe
I read somewhere that an EU software patent cannot be a software-only invention, but I can't seem to find a
reference to that now.

Re: EU and patents

What is the situation regarding 'ReactOS development' and software patents?
I understand the patents might hamper heaps of software development of
course. Where does it leave developers, and people like myself who will
be the end user?

Re: EU and patents

Hi

Basically: the same as any other software! We will try and avoid
patents where possible (work-arounds), attempting to find prior art or
perhaps even trying to prove them bogus. This is an industry wide
problem - Microsoft is regularly bitten by this very problem
particularly because they have so much cash. We will just have to try
our best to handle the problem - just like everyone else.

Cheers
Jason

Hi,

I decided to give 0.2.6 another try on my hardware and tried to install
it into a small fat32 partition (4th primary partition). The repartition
program did not recognize too much of my partition structure but since I
did not plan to change any partition I was not alert.

Then I formatted the partition (simply using the existing fat fs did not
work at all) and that did not work either. Unfortunately another
partition was affected (it killed the root directory of my i386 (=32bit)
linux partition /dev/hda6). I did not find any valuable data lost so far
(after reconstructing the filesystem) ...

To spare other users this unpleasant experience I would love to
investigate this problem a bit further:

fdisk -l gives me:
Disk /dev/hda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7296 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 914 7341673+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2 915 4743 30756442+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 4744 7175 19535040 5 Extended
/dev/hda4 7176 7296 971932+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/hda5 4744 4865 979933+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/hda6 4866 7175 18555043+ 83 Linux

And the ROS installer recognizes:
19077MB unpartitioned space
 7170MB NTFS C:
17592186024390MB unpartitioned space
957MB --- T 130
18120MB --- T 131 D:
949MB unpartitioned space

so it looks really confused.

Hardware: Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo 1630 AMD64 3700+

   Christof

PS: I was unable to start the system I copied from a qemu installation
over to the partition via grub+freeloader (no error output at all). So I
suspect that not only the installer is buggy.

PPS: My partition table in hex:

A closer look at this data turned out that I really selected my linux
partition to overwrite :-( [type 131, 18GB] so no problem here (besides
that ROS is unable to find its partition and boot from it).

It looks like the "unpartitioned space" corresponds to the W95 FAT32
partition I intended for ROS.
