Using Prex for a new ARM-based robotics platform

Hello developers,

I am on a team at Carnegie Mellon working to develop a new small
robotics research platform called Colony Scout. We are designing a
custom ARM-based board for the processing and control of hardware. We
are looking for a light weight POSIX complaint soft real-time OS for
our platform and the goal of Prex seems like exactly what we want.

Feel free to take a look at www.colonyscout.com for some preliminary
information.

So far we have started looking at the arm-integrator port and are
planning to work from there. I would like to know how we should go
about this work. Should we work from version 0.9.9 listed on the
homepage or is there a more up-to-date repository somewhere? We also
hope to implement some networking using the ZigBee protocol down the
road and I see that networking support is in the works.

Also, is it appropriate to post specific porting-related questions
here or should those be in the forum?

Thanks,
Brad Neuman

Hi Brad,

Looks like a fun project.

Unfortunately the owner of Prex has not made any public source control
available. I was maintaining a git tree of my changes against 0.8.1,
including board ports from others, however there were extensive
changes when the 0.9.0 tarball was released. I haven't had the energy
to undertake yet another big merge to bring my tree up to date and
this list has got rather quiet again.

Anyone interested in a collaborative development process?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for developers that are interested in a more
collaborative, evolutionary development process for prex 0.8.1. I
would like to be involved in the development of prex instead of trying
to figure out what changed when the next version is "delivered". If
there are developers out there who are happy with 0.8.1 and want to
improve on it then I would like to hear from them. It does not have to
be 0.8.1, any common starting point will do.
Please feel free to express your opinion. Thank you.

Re: Anyone interested in a collaborative development process?

0.8.1 was an example. 0.9.0 is fine. What matters is how we go from
there. I think we should collaborate early on before this thing
becomes too complicated.

Re: Anyone interested in a collaborative development process?

Yes it would be nice :), Why not starting by merging Andrew's github
with 0.9 (directory structure at least) ?
I am not really interested in improving the kernel, but sharing ports
and drivers (nearly finished a Nintendo DS port).

I am also involved in robotics and I would like to see the Carnegie
Mellon team contributing to the project !
