Hi Andrew,

I have added your port to git and merged it with my current master branch. See:

http://github.com/AndrewD/prex/tree/master

You port compiles after the merge but I have no way of doing further
testing so can you please test this at some stage?

Thanks,

Andrew

TODO -List?

hey,
I'm new to such big projects. I want to dive into prex, but dont
know what should to be done next (and whwether Im skilled enough for it
;) )
So do exist a TODO list or something like that? Or any tips what would
be best to start prex-development?

Usual approach is to scratch your own itch - do something that
interests you. Do you have something you would like to look at?

One suggestion would be a block driver layer. I've been considering a
middle layer that can read partition information and create additional
devices that expose the partitions so thinks like the fat filesystem
"just work" on SD cards, hard disks, etc. The hardware block driver
would register a device with this layer, much like my recent changes
to the tty layer. This layer would then create the actual devices.
This is a fairly small piece of work that doesn't involve low level
hardware details and is also nicely contained as a single driver.

I get the same error with a standard arm-elf- gcc build. I need to
comment out the CFLAGS makeoptions that Richard specified in
conf/arm/config.beagle for it to build:

#makeoptions CFLAGS+= -mcpu=cortex-a8 -mfpu=neon
-mfloat-abi=softfp -fno-stack-protector

I think this is due to a standard gcc build not having multilibs built
with -mfpu=neon. I believe Richard is using the CodeSourcery arm
toolchain from 2007 to run on BeagleBoard and it appears that that
toolchain has a wide variety of multilibs included.

It would be good if someone could sort out what was required to build
a suitable gcc toolchain, or if the above line is unnecessary - I can
build the code with the change but don't have a BeagleBoard to test
with.

Note that the Prex arm port doesn't actually use floating point so the
kernel and libs _should_ be able to be build with the default floating
point flags (or softfloat) and it should still boot.

Re: BeagleBoard port is working

Hey,
got the error skipped.
keep the makeoptions (makeoptions CFLAGS+= -mcpu=cortex-a8 -mfpu=neon
-mfloat-abi=softfp -fno-stack-protector)
but modify the ASFLAGS in mk/Makefile.inc to:

ASFLAGS+=	-W -mcpu=cortex-a8 -mfpu=neon -mfloat-abi=softfp

This avoid some crap default values.

Will push it to git later.

Re: Re : Re: BeagleBoard port is working

Hey Richard,
Thank you for the tip adding the makeoptions instead of modifying
mk/Makefile.inc.
Hopefully Iam able to push the changes to git today.

I havnt a beagleboard till now, I guess Ill get one from my uni in next
semester.
Gonna try it to run in qemu/bochs later ;)

Yes :)

At the moment I'm the only one with commit access to the public git
tree. The general model is that you can make your changes available in
some way and I can them merge them in. There are several ways we can
manage this:

1) email patches, either to the mailing list or me directly. You can
generate the patches in git ready for email - complete with your
commit history.
2) you can setup your own public tree and let me know where is it so I
can pull in changes
3) I can grant commit access to the tree I am maintaining so people
can push there directly

While the traffic is still very low it is easy to just email patches
around, but I'm happy to discuss other options.

building prex.img from Windows

Hi All,

I am able to compile the prex os on windows. But not able to make prex.img on windows. The file created after compilation is prexos. I saw the forums and found a shell script which can do it. But it is only for Linux. Is there any similar utility for WIndows.

Thanks
