Duly added a note to the Tip o' the day. I would have liked to create a
new page on the wiki to link to as an additional step to perform after
Installation, Creating a new user and Configuring the network - but how
does one create a new, non-existing page?

here you go.

  I've been reading the wiki discussions on a distributed chat network
for a little while, and I recently came across something that I though
you guys might be interested in.

CSpace (project page) is an python based, open-source, secure,
decentralized communications platform that supports chat, file transfer,
and remote desktop, and overall seems incredibly similar to the
"wishlist" of what has been discussed for a decentralized chat network.

Not really sure if this is what you are looking for, but I hope it might
be useful somehow.

How get 1280x1024 resolution?

Another question from this novice Plan 9 user. I'm trying to increase
the screen resolution to 1280x1024 from the present 1024x768x32. I've
examined /lib/vgadb thoroughly but frankly do not entirely understand
it. I've tried one or two options in /n/9fat/plan9.ini, including
monitor=vs1782, vgasize=1280x1024x<various bit settings>. One 9fan in
the archive mentioned simply putting in monitor=t23 in his case. Mine
seems closest to vs1782 but results in "vs1782 <at> 1280x1024x<whatever> not
in vgadb". Have also tried monitor=sxga with similar results.

Video card and monitor are capable of supporting 1280x1024x32 or more.
Details are:

Card: RIVA (Nvidia?) TNT2 64
Monitor: Viewsonic VE710s. H freq. 30-82, V 50-85 (very similar to the
characteristics of the vs1782 in vgadb.

with that and an nvidia card of some sort i use

vgasize=1280x1024x16
monitor=multisync135

in plan9.ini without having had to change anything else that i can remember.

Re: How get 1280x1024 resolution? (Raises another question)

Thanks for that Charles. After a little manual adjustment of the
monitor, that worked well. It raises another question, one that I've
asked before as a newcomer to Plan 9. How did you arrive at that answer?
What is there logically to relate a Viewsonic VE710s with the
multisync135 entry in vgadb, when the more obvious one (to me at least)
seemed to be the vs1782? I guess I'm just not sufficiently technically
oriented?

Status of SBPro support under 4th Edition

I've seen old postings suggesting that code supporting SB Pro exists
and has been made to work in the past. Is this code part of the base
distribution?

i've now tried that one too and monitor=vs1782 also worked for me.

Re: Status of SBPro support under 4th Edition

I have a sbpro-compatible devaudio.c from 2001, but it would need some
changes to fit the 4th edition kernel. I can't remember whether it
was ever tested with an actual SoundBlaster™ device or only something
which claimed to emulate it.

The driver in the standard distribution only works for sb16.

Re: Status of SBPro support under 4th Edition

Would it be possible to send me the old patch?

Are there legal issues preventing it from being included in the base distribution?
