Xsane PBI from AppCafe does not start

Good day,

Xsane (being installed from AppCafe) does not start on my computer, neither from the menu (I have only installed Gnome, no other destkops/WMs) nor from a terminal window.

On the console it prints as error message: Shared object "libcam.so.5" not found, required by "xsane"

I assume that might be a bug in the PBI package?

Best regards

Stephan

Can you manually remove the /var/tmp/instmp.* directories, and see if they come back after running those utilities? I've searched the source of both and cant find any reference to that location.

How are you installing applications?? I'm checking here, and nowhere in
our code do we use /var/tmp/instmp.* as a temporary directory. Rather we
use /usr/pbi for extraction / temp data.

When did these files come back? I.E. did you rm -rf /var/tmp/instmp.*
and reboot? At what point did they show up again? Have you tweaked or
customized this system in any way?

Re: /var partition easily gets filled up

Hi Kris,

I did a clean reinstallation of PCBSD 9.0 release to my primary partition then install apps from AppCafe and install xfce and kde from System Packages.

Network Manager does not auto refresh

After disabling my wireless network interface in Network Manager, the Device Status does not refresh but the tray icon is already disconnected.
I right again on my wireless network interface to disable, the 'Disable' right-click menu is still 'Disable' which should be Enable
'Restart the Network' right-click menu does not refresh also to disable
You have to close and reopen Network Manager to see the Device status refresh

Much better if the disable/enable in Network Manager is auto refreshing.

Im using PCBSD 9.0 release.

I believe this is the purpose of Capsicum: http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/security/capsicum/.

It will be interesting to see if any capsicum-enabled components will be ready for FreeBSD 9.1 (and thus in PC-BSD).

LXDE and XFCE crash with KVM

All,
I am running PCBSD9.0 64bit on an HP/Compaq 7800 with 4Gig of RAM. I also use an USB KVM switch. If I boot to KDE I can switch to another workstation and come back anywhere from minutes to days (yes, I did try that) and it still worked. If I boot to LXDE or XFCE and switch to another machine, if I am away for a short while, there is no problem (anywhere from minutes to an hour). However if I stay "off" the PCBSD box for a couple of hours the X server crashes and I have to reboot. It does not matter if I disable ACPI or not. I tried booting with ACPI disabled option and I tried with ACPI disabled in the kernel. Can someone point me in the right direction? Maybe what logs to look at, etc.

Ron Georgia

Right now I think about pbi integration with capsicum. For example pbi meta information may contain some rules (seems like permissions for android software).
While instalation process AppCafe / pbi installer shows permissions required by pbi. PBI software launcher gets permissions related to pbi, then create capsicum container and run application inside it.
It should looks simular to Android apps.

Feedback On Network Manager For 3G Mobile

Hi,
On 3G mobile, leave the current tab for advance users. It would be great to have the option to select predefined 3G operators from a drop-down list. Average users would have no idea about AT commands and the whole lot of other settings. Provide a link for users to post working profile to build up the database. Perhaps also a provide a default generic profile. Appended below is my working ppp.conf using the 3G service of Singtel, Singapore. Thank you for doing a great job.

ppp.conf:-

Re: About safety

Hi Yuri and Dru,

Thank you for this contribution. It is very helpfull. I hope that your suggestion will be put into practice Yuri.
In this sometimes grazy world you cannot be safe enough.

Best regards,
Hans
