9.0b3: 2 old, 1 new
PCBSD9.0-BETA3-x64-DVD.iso; KDE
Hi all
(1.old) I chose a) language: Rus; b) keyboard: Rus.
After that I could not input user name. Only Rus layout was present.
(2.old) After ADSL configuration (by GUI) my ADSL did not work.
The string "set device PPPoE:<device>:[povider's tag]"
was not present in appropriate section of ppp.conf.
These 2 bugs are able to antagonize of new users.
(3.new) After change desktop background picture, the rectangle with
shortcuts had been vanished forever. As for me, it is better
without rectangle; but only one must be: "with" or "without".
OK:
- sound
- flashplayer (FF, Opera)
- AppCafe
- mouse settings (vs Lars Engels above)
In tote one can see now: it will be an excellent OS.
Regards
Serghey

beta3 update from beta2 - notification failure
Hello..
AMD64 v9.0beta2, from USBFULL,
installed for AMD64 "Hammer" on 160GB SATA HDD (default partitioning) with components: KDE (minus L10N), Gnome, LXDE, XFCE, Dev-QT, Dev-VCS, and HPLIP. After "System Updater Bugfixes" having been applied.
My first attempt to update, via xfce, ended after the download with a message stating "disk may be full or dropped connection" in a small notification window. Assuming it was my connection that failed, I initiated the download for the update a second time. After the download completed, I was again greeted with a small notification window, but it was visible only very briefly- not sure if it coincidentally took my keypress after becoming the active window or not.
Since I was unable to determine what the message was, I checked my disk space and there was no indication of any area being in danger of becoming filled. Remembering (incorrectly it turns out) that xfce was involved in some of the updates, I switched to KDE (I have all 'supported' desktops installed). While in KDE, not knowing that the update succeeded or not, I ran it a *third* time. Once more, I was greeted with the notification of "disk is full or dropped connection".. but on a whim, decided to reboot anyhow.
Soon after initiating reboot, it began the beta2 to beta3 update, this seems to have completed successfully.
* There was no indication that I should reboot my pc to finish the update, my only notification told of a failed download.
Thanks!

On an AMD64 with default disk setup on a 1 Terabyte disk, I too received the error message of either full disk/dropped connection. However, unlike Tigersharke, a reboot did not begin anything and the system remained at BETA2.
Perhaps it's not the disk size or free space available on /usr, but the partition size allocated to /var or /tmp. In my case, like most, /var and /tmp are each 1.9 Gb.

It did come out 1+ week(s) ago, so if it is not there, you might have already applied the patch. ~Ken Moore PCBSD/iXsystems

In this case you need to go back to your desktop settings (right click on the desktop -> desktop settings) and make sure that you have the right desktop type setup (file-type, widget type, or other types). The "rectangle with shortcuts" is a KDE widget that is placed on the desktop by default, and you can add the widget back if you so desire. ~Ken Moore PCBSD/iXsystems
Re: 9.0b3: 2 old, 1 new
Hi Ken
Perhaps I wrote incomprehensibly.
I was running KDE, this had been written in my report.
The picture was changed automatically and widget vanished;
and above all: it is bad if widget vanished per se.
Thanks
