Possibly the 3d effects is failing somewhere when KDE starts up. After
it fails, can you ctrl-alt-f1, login as your user, and do a "tail
.xsession-errors" and see if anything is showing up?

can't print on Beta1.5

Hi,

my Printer (Canon Pixma iP4000) seems to be configured properly. It shows up
in both PC-BSD Systemsettings and KDE Systemsettings. But, i can just print
from GTK applications like firefox (Firefox 4.x installed by PBI). It's not
possible to print from any KDE application. I wanted to print a site from a
PDF file using Okular. But the printer dialog window just gives me the option
to print into a file. Either Postscript or PDF. Same behaivior with KMail and
KWrite. Is this a known problem? How can i fix this (or trouble shoot
better)?

thx and regards

updating process and installed packages

Hello

During update process all installed packages are removed. So after update to BETA 1.5 I miss qt creator and yakuake-qt4 packages that was installed before from ports/packages.
Is it possible to keep previous installed packages?

I am afraid not.
When the system is updating, it will be redo all of the system ports/packages which means that it will also wipe any custom installed ports/packages. The main places that are not touched by the system update are the /home directory, the port jails, and any PBI's you have installed. So it would be a good idea to install any ports you would like to keep in the jails, then they should remain from update to update.

BTW, I believe the 9.x PBI for QtCreator was released recently, so if you install it that way, it should also remain after upgrades. The Yakuake PBI has not built yet, but we are getting there slowly but surely. (400+ PBI's for two different architectures takes a while to build.....  :-)

Okay. Here is the .xsession-errors output. Also, fluxbox coughs does
not start either.

Does doing this fix the KDE printing issue?

mv /usr/bin/lpq /usr/bin/lpq.bak
mv /usr/bin/lpr /usr/bin/lpr.bak
mv /usr/bin/lprm /usr/bin/lprm.bak
ln -s /usr/local/bin/lpq /usr/bin/lpq
ln -s /usr/local/bin/lpr /usr/bin/lpr
ln -s /usr/local/bin/lprm /usr/bin/lprm

Cheers,

9.0beta1.5 amd64: pbi_makeport fails to build chroot / portjail fails to init

Hi there,

like the subject states pbi_makeport fails to build it's chroot:
[root <at> fc61] /# env LC_ALL=C pbi_makeport net-im/gajim
Building the PBI chroot environment... This may take a while...
Checking out FreeBSD sources from svn://svn.freebsd.org/base/releng/9.0
pbi_makeport: Subversion checkout failed! Logfile saved:
/usr/pbi/.buildWorldLog
[root <at> fc61] /# cat /usr/pbi/.buildWorldLog

svn: URL 'svn://svn.freebsd.org/base/releng/9.0' doesn't exist
[root <at> fc61] /#

This one is probably easy to fix for someone using PC/FreeBSD longer
than a few weeks. I guess svn simply needs to be directed to the correct
URL.

...and "portjail init" fails after a few hours of compiling:

login/display managers

found one ready for shipping and minor config as lm for all WM and DE
for PC-BSD: LightDM
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/LightDM
It has i18n support as well as user recognition schemes.
C based, and very easy headers.

Re: login/display managers

also engine is webkit based, so easy porting i18n for any future
additions to the new defaults every -stable.

Re: login/display managers

Hi!
Is it possible to reboot/shutdown with this login manager?

Personally I'm a fan of LXDM (login manager for lxde desktop) but at
this moment it is not ported to freebsd.
