Newer versions of EasyPBI are being integrated into the base system, as the features users have requested
are being added. The current version (in svn) is 1.2.

If you would like to test this version, run these commands as the superuser in your regular user's home directory:

svn co svn://svn.pcbsd.org/pcbsd/current/src-qt4
cd src-qt4/EasyPBI/
qmake-qt4 *.pro
make

Re: pbi_makeport failure in EasyPBI

hi Dru --

thanks very much for the advice. Unfortunately it's not working.

<at> rook> EasyPBI
launches EasyPBI v1.2 (it looks great!)

I rebuild the module and then select it, click "Build PBI", with this output as the result:

This libgtop was compiled on FreeBSD 9.0-RC3 amd64

If you see strange problems caused by it,

you should recompile libgtop and dependent applications

Extracting chroot environment...

pbi_makeport: Failed extracting chroot environment!

Cleaning /usr/pbi/ttytter-amd64.chroot

LibGTop-Server:

pid 35740 received eof.

I try the older method of running from the command line, with the copy/paste command:

gksu -a "pbi_makeport -c /home/bridger/EasyPBI/Modules/ttytter -o /home/bridger/EasyPBI/PBI --delbuild"

This fails, too, with the same message.

It doesn't want to build that chrooted environment. The other day when I was trying this, EasyPBI v 1.0 was working on downloading something and I had to interrupt it mid-download. Could there be a left-over, partial .tbz somewhere that's blocking EasyPBI?

Thanks again for your suggestions!

Cheers,

Bridger

If you would like to test this version, run these commands as the superuser in your regular user's home directory:

svn co svn://svn.pcbsd.org/pcbsd/current/src-qt4
cd src-qt4/EasyPBI/
qmake-qt4 *.pro
make
make install

Then exit the superuser account and run EasyPBI as your regular user.

In order to build the src, you need to have Development-Qt and Development-VCS packages first installed from Control Panel -> System Manager -> System Packages -> Development.

Cheers,

Dru

Re: JRE diablo on PCBSD9

hi!

the AppCafe has OpenJDK, and based on a forum thread (here: http://forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.php?t=15493), the OpenJDK PBI should be sufficient for java-in-browsers.  ...if that's not enough then you'll need to build from ports. apologies in advance if you're already familiar with these procedures!

1) read up on the Ports Jail in PC-BSD (here: http://wiki.pcbsd.org/index.php/Ports_Jail) -- you'll want to do this, at least at first, to keep your building separate from the base system. also, there's a fantastic YouTube intro to the Ports Jail here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NlAW1B1W-E.

2) check out the FreeBSD Handbook for more information on using the Ports system, found here: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ports-using.html

3) the commands are pretty simple, so the only complicated parts are going to be a) the (potentially) slow build-time and b) making sure that you download all of the correct files (and agree to the licensing stuff). all of the necessary info is provided as you build, too.

HOWEVER :), try the OpenJDK PBI first -- it's So Much Simpler.
HTH!
Cheers!

Hi!

Thanks for this! unfortunately openjdk gives me a lot of problems with
some heavy java based applications from my work, so I allways ended up
installing the sun version which works like a charm for them, I will get
the JRE from the port collection on the jail see how it works :), i
guess i would need to compile a browser inside the jail as well to link
the JRE to it? or could I do it to the outside firefox instance?

Cheers!

Re: JRE diablo on PCBSD9

Unfortunately, I'm not sure :(

Off the top of my head, I want to say that you shouldn't have to run a browser inside the jail -- the Ports Jail lets you run applications from outside the jail (see youtube video for the general idea). So it seems like you should be able to link a browser outside the jail to an executable inside the jail, but I don't know for certain.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe one of the devs or more experienced users can chime in. Also, someone on the IRC channel may be able to help with this, too.

Cant Login, Gnome Keyring Daemon

Hello Guys..

its me again..

well after success solving install problem that i posted on
the BIOS Stuck / HDD Bricked Issue --(http://forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.php?t=16697)

i encountered new problems after config the display.
the login screen came up, and after i logged my Id and pass. the screen goes back to the login screen.
so i try to log in as root. it does the same.

then i try to login using CLI on the other TTY.
i CAN login as user and login as root. so i guess the problem is not the system.

and then i check out the messages line on the ttyv0 (ctrl-Alt-F1).
the last message is :

-- Apr 10 10:17:45 pcbsd-2941 gnome-keyring-daemon[7590]: couldn't allocate secure memory to keep passwords and or keys from being written to the disk --

so i looked it up on google. i found a couple of interesting threads like:

Gnome PolicyKit + Keyring + dbus issues -- (http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=22537)
gnome-keyring-daemon couldn't allocate secure memory -- (http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/20451/gnome-keyring-daemon-couldnt-allocate-secure-memory)

And there's even solved ones too,
[Solved] can not log into Gnome -- (http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=20968)

but all of the above looks like specific to Gnome. but for me, i dont even start up the Gnome DE.
Im logging in using KDE. why the gnome should be involved in any way on this?

any one can give me guidance ?
this problem is posted on the PC-BSD Forum
Can't Login, gnome-keyring-daemon --> http://forums.pcbsd.org/showthread.php?t=16702

thanks
