lost data trouble

hi, i have a big and weird problem on 7.0.1 i386.
i have 2 hard disks, one for pcbsd, and one new one for XP, split into 2 ntfs partitions - one for windows and one to store
all my files - music, videos, pics, etc ( so i don't lose them if i need to reformat windows.

all of my files where still on my UFS volume where bsd is and i was moving them to the 2nd ntfs partition (from terminal).

when i finished all files, i checked they were all there, on the right disk and even watched a couple of video files and
unrar-ed an archive;  but when i rebooted into windows i couldn't see any files ( hidden or not). i rebooted back into
pcbsd and still i can't see any files.

the disk is still showing as 46% full with about 50gb used from about 119gb from both windows and pcbsd, but still i can;t
see any files.

any clues?

thanks

system settings not saving

In system settings and changing the appearance or desktop I used to get
a pop up box saying "saving system settings" It hung during one of
these updates and had to kill it. Now I don't see that pop up box
anymore and any changes I make do not save.
I was hoping one of those updates would fix it but I still have the same
problem.
I'm searching kde but not having a lot of luck.
Thank you,
Aaron

No Creative Labs support

Dear Support, I love PC-BSD but why no Creative Labs Audigy2 drivers for
version 7.1?

Which specific edition of the Audigy2 card do you have? I show support
for it with the snd_emu10k1 driver in 7.0.1 right now, or even possibly
the snd_emu10kx driver. Are you getting some message that sound-support
could not be loaded? If so, please save the diagnostic sheet it creates,
and send it over to me so I can setup the auto-detection for it.

If you aren't getting an error, but sound just isn't working, do this:

# pciconf -l -v > pci.out

If you can send the pci.out file, that would be great :)

That is rather strange. If you copied and then played them from the NTFS
partition, they should have been there. Maybe ntfs-3g is borked somehow?

Did they have some special chars in them?

if you mean in the file names, i don't think so. just regular english characters and numbers + extension. there might have been the odd file, but not the majority.
anyway, i wiped the disk now after scanning the drive with some recovery apps from windows, and managed to recover some pictures and a couple of videos, (which could have been deleted files already on the disk - don't know).
i just put it down to lives and learns

Re: No Creative Labs support

Kris, I just downloaded the new 7.1 dvd iso file, but like I said I
have a Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum card on a Gigabyte 81865GME=775-RH
motherboard with onboard sound and when I bring up PCBSD 7.0 with 7.1 update
No sound what so ever.

Could you at least send me the pciconf output file?

# pciconf -l -v > pci.out

Also, is the onboard sound disabled in your bios? If its not, then its
possible the sound-detection module is using that card first.

Re: No Creative Labs support

I will install the 7.1 version now and see what happens, the on board
sound card is not shut off in the bios. The drivers for the most popular
sound cards should be in this release

Re: No Creative Labs support

Even with a new 7.1 install no sound when playing a cd or at startup, I
think it is time to go back to SUSE 11
