Keyboard not working on Dell XPS 1530 during install

Hello Everyone,

First of all I'd like to congratulate you guys on developing an amazing distribution. I've been using PC-BSD for about six months now and I really like it. I just received my new Dell XPS 1530 in the mail. I was pretty excited because I was going to put PC-BSD on it. However, I ran into a snag during installation where the keyboard will not work. I tried running it in vesa (just for the hell of it) and regular mode and the keyboard still will not work. Once I get to the password screen, I cannot go any further because of this problem. I was finally able to install the system by plugging in a USB keyboard. A number of people seem to have this issue. After starting up the system, I seem to have no problem using the keyboard. Hope you guys can look into this. Th anks!

Glad to hear you like the OS :)

As for the keyboard, what type is it? A PS2 or USB dell-specific board? 
But it does work fine after you get the system loaded, correct? If so, 
then probably a module or something is missing from the install CD, but 
is present in the installed system. I'm still working on a 1.5 release 
of PC-BSD here, would you be willing to test it out and confirm if this 
problem still exists when I've got the ISO's ready for testing?

Root password issue

Hi

Ive just installed PCBSD 1.4 on my gateway old laptop ( Celeron 500 mHz).

I have two problems,

First
My root password wrote during the install dont work when the system is
up under my user.

Can you tell me how to reset it ? i try to boot in single user mode
end re enter my root passwd but i have an error message.

I think my numlock LED must be activated when i wrote the passwd during install.

Second :

My video card is working but only in 800x600 so PCBSD is not very nice
on the screen and i dont have the option to change in 1024. I will try
to find my video card parameters to know if it is a bad configuration
or a bug.

Vincent,

Changing the root password is pretty easy. Simply do this:

At the boot loader screen, choose option 4 for single user mode.

Next when you get dropped to the shell prompt, type in:
# mount -o rw /
# passwd

You should be able to change the PW at that point, type "exit" when you 
are finished, to continue booting like normal.

As for video, what type of video card are you using? After you boot for 
the first time, the Xorg setup wizard should appear. If you choose 
1024x768 and click apply, does it work? Also, you may need to go to the 
advanced tab, and enter your own horz / vert refresh rates, if X isn't 
detecting them properly.
