So, the new PBI was created successfully and works OK too. Ie. it can be
uploaded to PBIDir.com :)

New PBI to test

Hi - I've made a Custom compiled version of the timidity++ package for PC-BSD. This allows midi playback from GUI or terminal (no midi device required)

  1. PBI installer
  2. Does NOT need /dev/sequencer to function - plays directly as wave out so will work on any supported soundcard regardless of midi functionality in PC-BSD (YAYYY!)
  3. Does NOT interfere with ports/packages version (100% dual install compatible - renamed executable "PCBSD-timidity")
  4. Konsole based ncurses interface AND GTK GUI
  5. Custom documentation including command line reference
  6. Instructions for KDE embedding: double click a midi file and it opens (NOT A BROWSER PLUG-IN THOUGH!)
  7. It's own configured sample/patch set (eawpats)
  8. DEMO icons for instant testing/joy

My service provider is tight and I don't have an upload spot (big enough) for testing.
Can I put it somewhere for testing/appraisal?

Thanks - I've been absent from PC-BSD for a long time now

OK - Ignore that - I found a free hoster (euch)

Posting download address at forums now - sorry about that.

Hello.

Actually there's PC-BSD-hosted server for that too. See this thread:

Re: New PBI to test

Thanks billions - the free hoster was RUBBISH!
ftp://dev.pcbsd.org/PCBSD-timidity1.0-PV0.1.pbi now uploaded - crap midi
files are now happening : )

It can also play .kar Karaoke files from terminal
PCBSD-timidity -in /path/to/kar/file

but I "forgot" to mention that anywhere as Karaoke is an abomination and
should NEVER be encouraged :)

If you get a chance to test it I'd be really happy to get some feedback:
http://forums.pcbsd.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=12002&p=73909

Thanks SO much for the info about the upload server.

Great to see you back Steve!!

I've tested it here, and it looks and sounds great! This should be a
very useful PBI, since I know that Midi support has long been lacking on
BSD.

Is this PBI you built able to be created as a build-server module by any
chance? If it was created from the FreeBSD ports tree, we could convert
it to a module and then our build-server can rebuild the PBI
automatically whenever the timidity port gets updated. The advantage of
doing this, is that you won't need to manually maintain the PBI, rather
we'll be able to monitor its progress and automatically roll out new
versions for PC-BSD 1.5, 7.x, and amd64 builds.

Here's some more information about this:

http://www.pcbsd.org/content/view/45/30/
http://pbibuild.pcbsd.org/index.php?sort=date&ver=6

If you would like to do this, we can help you convert it to a module
configuration, and then I can set you up with SVN access to update /
maintain the PBI as well if you like. Let me know what you think!

Re: New PBI to test

Hi Kris - nice to hear from you again :)

At the moment this is a very "manual" build - I would truly LOVE to get it
to build from ports, but as there were a bunch of customised
./configure --with_BLAH options, and so many standard port options to
override (on two ports), I just went CVS and manual build on this one.

This is not the end of this PBI though. Timidity has a truckloads of very
cool features, like midi to wav, flac etc output, aRts output, sequencer in,
network midi server etc. And of COURSE the spectacular and beautiful Xaw3d
interface is currently broken in ports... sigh ...., so I want to keep
updating this over time as time permits. This will also mean a bunch of
custom scripts to make the most common and really useful features available
from GUI utils (kdialog), alternative sound samples, tons of stuff ... in
the fullness of time ...... :) Seeing it properly integrated into KDE would
be a major win as well.

This is all in the future (PC-BSD 7?).

I'm already looking into the build server option (after your pointer), and I
believe in time, I will be able to get this to build "just right" from the
ports tree. But for now - it's a manual jobbie - not a burning hastle, as
timidity development really has slowed.

Who knows - I may even tell people it has .kar Karaoke support one day
......

bacula-bat: script for binary missing in .sbin

Hello.

I just discovered a problem with Bacula-Bat - there's no 'bat' script in .sbin
and thus the program cannot be started from command-line with just 'bat'.

I'm not sure how the .sbin/ scripts are created, so what should I do to get
the script there?
