Beginner Darwinports Issues - Gnome Desktop Doesn't Display Correctly

I have a current Powerbook G4 with a 10.3.2 OSX (with Xcode and all 
updates) and the current Darwinports installation (from yesterday). 
Under Apple's X11, applications like Abiword2 and Gimp work fine. 
However when I try to add an .xinitrc so I can exec a gnome-session or 
run enlightenment, the desktop comes up but no text is displayed in any 
dialogs (only small dashes).

Is there something I'm missing in order to run a full blown Gnome 
desktop here? (Installed ports below) In particular, how should I have 
my .bash_profile, .bashrc, and .xinitrc files setup?

I have a current Powerbook G4 with a 10.3.2 OSX (with Xcode and all 
updates) and the current Darwinports installation (from yesterday). 
Ports like Abiword2 and Gimp run fine under Apple's X11, but while the 
current Gnumeric port seemed to be fetched, configured and installed 
correctly, when I run it the program crashed with the following 
information poor popup..

Application "gnumeric" (process 9911) has crashed due to a fatal error. 
(Segmentation fault)

Beginner Darwinports Issues - Sylpheed won't install

I have a current Powerbook G4 with a 10.3.2 OSX (with Xcode and all 
updates) and the current Darwinports installation (from yesterday). 
I've already successfully installed, and can run other ports like 
Abiword2, Gimp and Balsa, but when I tried to install the current 
Sylpheed port, it quit during configuring, saying that I didn't have a 
version of glib at 1.2.6 or later. The strange thing is that the glib I 
have installed from the current ports is 1.2.10.

Beginner Darwinports Issues - CDRTools won't uninstall

I have a current Powerbook G4 with a 10.3.2 OSX (with Xcode and all 
updates) and the current Darwinports installation (from yesterday). If 
I install the cdrtools port it will go through the process of fetching, 
configuring and installing it. But if I try to uninstall it I get a 
failure message that states "Uninstall failed: Port has no contents 
entry".

And now if I try and issue another install of cdrtools, it will go 
through the process of fetching, configuring and installing the 
cdrtools port, only to give the following message when the process 
stops;  Port cdrtools already registered as installed.

I have the following in .xinitrc and i runs gnome "ok" i fullscreen:

# start the window manager
export WINDOW_MANAGER=metacity
export GDK_USE_XFT=0
exec gnome-session
