gtk install errors

When I try and install gtk i get this error:

Error: Target com.apple.install returned: Another
version of Port gtk is already registered as
installed. Please uninstall the port first.

anyone know how to fix it?
i don't have gtk already installed, but i do have gtk2
installed. this however shouldn't effect it since they
are two different trunks.

it's our cvs server that is having issues. It should be resolved in the
course of monday (US-time).

Bugs #1252, #1253 and #1254 filled in against the ethereal port

Hello everybody, just a small message to point out the following
simple and short bugs filed in against the ethereal port:

#1252, Lack of contents listing of the ethereal port by the port(1)
utility:
http://www.opendarwin.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1252

#1253, New release of ethereal out:
http://www.opendarwin.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1253

#1254, Non X11 build variant request for the ethereal port:
http://www.opendarwin.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1254

They are simple and short, low severity bugs, nothing to be alarmed
about! Thank you all for your attention,...

I actually purposefully removed the (somewhat problematic) non-X11 variant for
ethereal.
I'm curious - what do you use tethereal for that tcpdump does not already do?

Re: Bugs #1252, #1253 and #1254 filled in against the ethereal port

Hi Landon. Why is the non-X11 ethereal variant problematic? That
really beats me! And why I prefer tethereal over tcpdump? Simple, very
simple... I don't like tcpdump! First time I used it I didn't like the
way it handles the packets according to the flags passed, didn't enjoy
the way it displays the output either. That kept me from using it and
reading its man page, which in turn meant I didn't learn to use it very
well. During all this I had recollections of tethereal and how I liked
it in my Linux days, and then I discovered the port is offered through
DarwinPorts.... Added are two facts: one, I have a small drive; second,
I'm not an X11 fan. So why add all that overhead for something that
I'll be using only at the command line? See my point?

And what I was thinking is that it is nice to offer the choice, for
those who don't want to use ethereal the simple option to only build
tethereal is there, offered right out of the box! Currently you can do
it by hacking the local copy of the Portfile, but you risk screwing
something up if you don't know what you're doing (as it actually
happened to me!). Hope that explains it!

	Regards,...

if you provide a "good-looking" patch with a no-x variant, that isnt
troublesome - you provide a better argument.

suggestions are good - patches better :)

Spam

People,

I know there has been this debate about allowing outside posting. Fine,
but the way it is handled right now is unacceptable. This is the 5th
Spam post I received today via DarwinPorts ML I believe and that is too
much. I think either the list should be closed to outside postings, or
postings can only be done from non-subscribers via a form. And just a
slight hint. Putting e-mail adresses in plain dude <at> dude.com form or as
mailto: links on the website is an open invitation for spammers. At
least put it on like Sourceforge does as plain text "dude AT " dude DOT
com".
Cheers,

Isn't there a spam filter on the list?

Whatever it is that serves the Portfiles from the web server (eg
<http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/darwinports/dports/aqua/Fire/Portfile>)
would also need tweaking to obfuscate email addresses inside portfiles.

Cheers,

Chris

Hmm. I wonder if this is a result of the new-ish uninstall stuff since
having both installed definitely used to work. I'll try to take a look
at it this weekend once I have internet access at home again (PS:
moving sucks).
