It's "Haiku", not "Haiku-OS" btw :p

The graphics card might not be supported natively... you'll likely be
forced into VESA mode.

The rest seems ok to me.

François.

Re: New Machine :) for running Haiku-OS

Hi,

i know that it is "Haiku" ;) but it's more easy to search for "Haiku-OS" than for "Haiku" if i wan't find poetry ;) so i habit to use "Haiku-OS" ^^.
Anyway, that the graphics card will not be supported natively i already expected. What kind of graphics card would be natively supported by Haiku (i would prefer an nVidia card)?

Robert

Re: New Machine :) for running Haiku-OS

Robert:

Last I checked, Haiku actually has an Nvidia driver that supports up
to the 7950 series chip. You should be OK for at least eclectic screen
resolutions.

Hi,

what do you mean with "for at least eclectic screen resolutions"?

Robert:

What I mean is special screen resolutions like widescreen modes that you cannot get with VESA.

Re: New Machine :) for running Haiku-OS

Ahh ok, thanks!

Knows someone a PCIe graphics card (prefer nVidia) which would be "full" supported (including widescreen modes)?

regards,
Robert

Robert:

You can easily nab an Nvidia 7950 based PCIe card off of eBay. Just look around. :)

A quick note on the graphics cards. Radeon HD 4000-6000 (especially the
54+ range)
are great cards and Haiku *should* (hopefully) have basic extended mode
setting in
the future (lots of work is ongoing to get these working)

Thanks!
