Sorry for the terrible delay on the Haiku Tutorials

To my Haiku compatriots:

I am terribly sorry for not having given any update on my tutorial project for the past several months. A lot has happened to me in the past few weeks, including a new girlfriend (who is a C programmer btw), a 2nd job, and night classes. Since I am not at the university this semester, I do not have access to the camera equipment as well as the other software I need to whip out a professional production. I will return in the Fall of 2011, thus I will resume work on the tutorials. I just didn't want to go off the radar and not let everyone know what was going on. Sorry for the delay and I will be getting back on full steam once next semester rolls around. Thank you all for your patience.

Cheers,

Matt

Images (+audio, +video) for demo package

Hi there!

I'm wrapping up the demo packages that were started as GCI projects.
I think we could use some more high quality photos. If there are some
photography geeks around that have original, beautiful material that
they would like to donate, please upload a few of your best shots and
announce the link here or mail me privately.

The same applies to musicians and filmmakers for the audio and video
demo packages. Smaller clips are better for the packages not to become
unpractically huge.

Be aware that the files will be freely distibuted under a Creative
Commons - Share Alike license.

Thanks!
Regards,
Humdinger

Tired of waiting

No, it's not what you think. :)
I'm tired of waiting and not doing anything about Haiku (or BeOS for
that matter because I waited hoping for Be inc to pull it off in those
days). That I'd just 'do my part' after Haiku is 99% polished and
perfect and only then would I help by testing out almost completed
software or promoting the Haiku idea to the masses. I decided I'm
actually going to 'do' this programming thing and learn how to create
something. So I picked up the Gaddis C++ book that was untouched (it
was for a college course years ago and I just wasn't into it at the
time) and worked on the exercises.
If you are just starting out and just read a book that's full of
#<>{};, your mind just turns blank. But I forced myself to do all the
checkpoints, review questions and all the programming challenges for
each chapter and then I realized that this stuff wasn't so bad after
all. I also came up with my own commenting system so that I could keep
track of all those braces. For example, if the beginning of the loop
is: if (x >2) then after the closing brace I write // if if (x > 2)
Once I finish this book, the next step will be to get C++ Primer and
other books to really know C++.

Email registration problem?

Hi!

I've been registered in this mailing list before but did unregister some time ago (years I think).
Since yesterday I received several mails from this list.

I don't know what is happening but it looks like a backup on the registration list or something.

Anyway, as before, I'm still following the Haiku developpement from far away but can't follow the mailing list,
so please remove my email.

I wish you good luck and good work.

Last works on Haiku really excited me and I hope to find the time in coming years to port games on this OS.

Joël Lamotte.

If you want to get into C++, you may want to look at the "Learning to
Program with Haiku" series of lessons in PDF or dead-tree format. Not
only can you get the hang of hacking C++, but you can also do it while
learning to write code specifically for Haiku.

I am having a hell of a time with c/c++. I will be joinging you and
when you finish with that book.

   I'll buy it from ya.

Is the system sounds creation task still open ? I have a home studio
full of gear to create all sorts of interesting stuff.
I hadn't decided to tackle it becuase I was looking for some input
from the developers on what types of sounds they heard in there
own minds ??? Organic, tecnical, musical ?

I have the tools and since nothing got done with it, it'd be nice to
give haiku a voice.

OK just so you know, I wrote all over the margins in pencil. After
every few pages in each chapter there are checkpoints. For example,
write this function or complete this program or predict the output. I
write them in the margins without being next to a computer and then I
check my answers in the back in the book. That forces me to think like
the compiler so by the time I write my 'real' programs at the end of
the chapter, I won't make any obvious mistakes.
After I finish the book I won't need it anymore because from whatI
understand, C++ Primer would be a better reference for all the
details.

OK this is a different dialect. I'm used to
cout << numBeers << " bottles of beer on the wall. " << numBeers << "
bottles of beer." << endl;
