SIMH network

Hi,

I'm installed NetBSD/vax 4.0 on SIMH (windows).

Any idea how to identify the network interface name on windows host ? I
can't type 'at xq0 hme0' here. I guess 'at xq0 "Connexion au réseau
Local"' won't work. I'm also wondering if the physical network
interface needs to be free of if SIMH is doing a bridge.

Note by default SIMH's xq shows up anyways, but I don't know how this
fake interface is accessible,

sim> show devices
XQ, address=20001920-2000192F, no vector, MAC=08:00:2B:AA:BB:CC,
type=DELQA, poll=100

Everything should be fine afterwards,
# dmesg | grep qe
qe0 at uba0 csr 174440 vec 764 ipl 15
qe0: delqa, hardware address 08:00:2b:aa:bb:cc

# ifconfig -a
qe0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        address: 08:00:2b:aa:bb:cc
        inet 10.156.249.89 netmask 0xff000000 broadcast 10.255.255.255
        inet6 fe80::a00:2bff:feaa:bbcc%qe0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1
lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 33192
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000
        inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128

I think you want SHOW XQ ETH . If that doesn't work (this seems like a long
walk to take but:), you can grab the Win32 Demo version of E11 from:

	http://www.dbit.com/demo.html

and unpack it (it doesn't really "install" in the Windows sense so you can
just delete the files when you're done), run E11 and type "SHOW NICS" to get
a list of WinPcap device names on your system. Cut & paste away ...

NetBSD/vax, PIC and tcpdump or samba

Would it be correct to submit the following bug report to the
Samba-3.2.1 project?

Does PIC code work under NetBSD? If so, since when?
I've previously tried to build a working tcpdump binary,
and I finally succeeded after disabling the generation
of PIC code.

-aw

   ---- intended bug report ----

I'm trying to build Samba 3.2.1 on NetBSD/vax, version 1.5 or
newer and kernel 1.5.2 (custom).

I've previously discovered that PIC code - position independent
code - does not work properly on the version of NetBSD/vax
mentioned above, and problly older. I don't know if the issue
has been corrected in later versions of NetBSD/vax.

Therefore, the configure script of Samba should not attempt to
make the compiler generate PIC code under the environment
described above. It is not worth the risk.

First Northern Germany DECnet Party, who wants to join?

Who wants to install, configure, network, cluster or program ALPHAs,
MIPSen, VAXen and PDPs just for fun together with 10 to 20 other DEC
enthusiasts for a day or two?

We want to join everything running on DEC hardware or talking DECnet,
including simulators (e.g. simh).

Beginners are welcome!

Everyone brings along his computers and together we will build
something really nice! Maybe there will even be some VAXstations to
lend for the event.

If there are enough persons willing to participate I will arrange a
large room and other things needed ...

Beside the activities mentioned above there are further things planned:
