Re: sha512.c:490: internal compiler error

I haven't filed a pr on it, but I've already reported it on this list a few times.
gcc broke again, with the import of 4.1.3-20070620 on 2007-06-21
Guess we had some fixes that got lost in that import, but I haven't had any time
to investigate, and gcc have always confused me in the past anyway...

Timecounter patch for testing

Hi all,
please test this patch and report back. Diff is against netbsd-4 for
simplier testing, but it should almost directly apply to HEAD.

NetBSD 4 and perl?

Hi,

Has anyone been able to get perl from pkgsrc to compile on NetBSD 4 on
VAX? I am trying to start a bulk build, but I'm getting stuck here:

cc -o libperl.so -Wl,-R/usr/pkg/lib -Bshareable perl.o gv.o toke.o
perly.o op.o pad.o regcomp.o dump.o util.o mg.o reentr.o hv.o av.o run.o
pp_hot.o sv.o pp.o scope.o pp_ctl.o pp_sys.o doop.o doio.o regexec.o
utf8.o taint.o deb.o universal.o xsutils.o globals.o perlio.o perlapi.o
numeric.o locale.o pp_pack.o pp_sort.o -lm -lcrypt
/usr/lib/crt0.o: In function `___start':
: undefined reference to `main'
*** Error code 1

Not sure if this is an issue of how I set up my bulk machine's chroot on
nfs, or what...

Thanks,
John Klos

No, not lately, but i juts fired up my VAX and started a compile.
This will take a while!
But i'll post the results here....

Re: NetBSD 4 and perl?

So, that's what i get:

cc -o libperl.so -Wl,-R/usr/pkg/lib --whole-archive -shared
-L/usr/pkg/lib perl.o gv.o toke.o perly.o op.o pad.o regcomp.o dump.o
util.o mg.o reentr.o hv.o av.o run.o pp_hot.o sv.o pp.o scope.o pp_ctl.o
pp_sys.o doop.o doio.o regexec.o utf8.o taint.o deb.o universal.o
xsutils.o globals.o perlio.o perlapi.o numeric.o locale.o pp_pack.o
pp_sort.o -lm -lcrypt
gcc: the -shared option is not currently supported for VAX ELF
*** Error code 1

Where does the "-shared" come from???

Greetings
ms

I have build perl in the past, but lately I've been too miffed about gcc
breaking not long after we got it fixed, so I haven't bothered doing anything.

NetBSD-4 does not support shared libraries on the vax. This has been fixed
in current, and we meant to pull it up for 4.0, but nobody found the time
to do it.

Ah, right! I forgot about that...

So, just out of curiosity, if i "edit away" the -shared, i get exactly
the same error as th OP:

/usr/lib/crt0.o: In function `___start':
: undefined reference to `main'
*** Error code 1

So I guess there will be no bulk package build for NetBSD-4... Sorry!
