Microvax KA650 Bulkhead Pinouts (Internal Connectors)

I have an old vax in a ba213 cabinet, w/ ka650 cpu.
Unfortunatly the bulkhead is long gone and I need to recreate one using
parts on-hand (i've done this once before but those cables are gone so I
can't use them as a reference) I would be appreciative if anyone could
send me this info, I need the serial console cable, speed selection, and
language option/bootmode switch.

Thanks in advance

I think the KA655 CPU Module Technical Manual has all of that
info in it and can be found at:

Re: Microvax KA650 Bulkhead Pinouts (Internal Connectors)

Many thanks, although the ka655 manuals didnt tell me the pinout they
did tell me the connector information, and with an old VMS wizard
previously asked question i was able to build a new bulkhead using parts
I had on hand.

VS2000 db50 external drive cable --- can old sun3 cable be used?

Fortune, and a single buckeroo de realme chanced upon me
a genuine VS2000 critter with external drive cabinet. It appears
the internal and external drives are RD54's. The cable is a db50
based thing that connects the cpu with the external drive. I do
not have the actual DEC cable, but I do have a sun 3 cable
that appears to be the same connectors and probably the same
basic 50 pin cable. DOES ANYONE KNOW one way or the
other whether or not this sun 3 vme scsi cable can sub in a
satisfactory manner for the DEC mfm external drive cable?

Does NetBSD VAX work correctly on a VS2000 graphics head
so that at least text mode will run on an old mono VR262 or
equivalent monitor?

Thanks

Bob Keys

(any other oddities I should know about the VS2000 before firing
  it up?)

All I can see from a quick browse of the UV/VS2K Tech Manual is
that the cable you want is a BC17Y. I cannot find anything that
documents exactly what the external pinouts are but I didn't look that
hard.
If you want to browse yourself, the manual is at:
   http://208.190.133.201/decimages/moremanuals.htm

It's probably a straight through cable, but I don't have
one to look at myslef so I cannot say for sure!

What I myself would do is get a bit of 50-conductor flat ribbon cable,
the kind with twisted pairs almost everywhere except for a small
flat section every couple of feet. Add to this two crimp-on DD50
connectors, and go.

Re: VS2000 db50 external drive cable --- can old sun3 cable be used?

Being not the timid kind..... I tried the sun 3 scsi cable.
It works! The silly box has 6mb of ram and the two
RD54's, and tk50. Not much of a box, but something
to try to use as the slowest vax in the world.....(:+}}...
(Actually, at 0.9 vup, it will be similar to a KA630, from
what I can tell, and not as slow as an 11/750 or 11/730).

Does anyone know which garden varieties of NetBSD
are actually known to boot from tk50 and work on an
MFM VS2000 crate? I remember there was a time
when that capability was lost, not too long ago.

Also, what is the status of using other than the tk50z
(i.e., scsi HD's) on the scsi bus of the 2000 crate?

Anyone actually running an MV/VS 2000 box?

(:+}}...

Thanks

Pretty cool, and since RD54's seem to fetch $200+ on Ebay quite a deal :-)
I ran Ultrix on my VS2000 until it was adopted by another Vax enthusiast.
You can _talk_ to other devices on the SCSI bus but in order to boot from
them you need a ROM patch.
