Re: NetBSD2.0/sparc not ready for prime time?

Yes, but as has already been stated, the IPX is sun4c which is different.
I've now taken the lists advice and compiled apache 1.3.33 and bind 9.3.0
without thread support. Hopefully this will end my woes.

There have been reports that threaded programs don't work on sun4c, see

 http://www.netbsd.org/cgi-bin/query-pr-single.pl?number=25633

(and note that it's not realy clear if this is limited to sun4c).
There are also known problems with all sparc{,64} machines when threaded
programs start swapping.

thks to all for help.

I tried for quite a while with floppies today and had
alot of trouble just formatting them and dd'ing them.
then they didn't work at booting anyway.

i think i've learned my lesson.
floppies just aren't a long term way of bootin the machine.
the disks and the drives age too much.
a few years ago it would work ok. but now they are too stuffed.

I grabbed the cd ISO and had it installed in 30mins.:)

thks again,
Paul.

Ah. This explains things (Sparc64, -current, box runs quite solid in
normal operation, but if I run Mozilla and *then* do things that cause
swapping, I've seen more than one hard system lockup).

Thanks for the pointer. Is there a list of which standard applications
(i.e. those which come in the NetBSD 2.0/sparc release) are compiled with
threads enabled? So far I know of bind.

Of the non-standard applications, I know of apache 2.0 httpd.

Hello,

Try the patch Chuck Silvers posted here (and on port-sparc64 ) a couple
of days ago. On my boxes ( U1 and U10 ) it prevents the kernel panics,
instead the processes in question mostly get a bus error and dump core
( although there were a few instances of zombie processes ). Still far
from being satisfactory but it keeps your box running.

good luck

Sparc LX install

Hello,

I have a Sparc LX that has been setting around my office for a few
years and
figure I would put it to some use. The only problem is that I do not
have a
monitor, CD drive or keyboard for it. The only other computers I have
are
running OSX. Is there a way to install NetBSD via eithernet, By
connecting
directly to a computer using a cross over cable?

Thanks for the help,

Kelley

Sure:

"cpu0: bogus interrupt"

Hi,
I started seeing this on a dual-CPU ss20 running a 2.0_BETA kernel:
cpu0: bogus interrupt ipl 0xa pc=0xf00c442c npc=0xf00c4430 psr=400006c3<S,PS>
cpu0: bogus interrupt ipl 0xa pc=0xf00c4420 npc=0xf00c4424 psr=404006c3<S,PS>

Any idea what this means ?

Re: NetBSD2.0/sparc not ready for prime time?

please try the attached patch for the sun4c-specific pthreads problem.
you'll need both a new kernel and a new libpthread.so
(built with the fixed lock.h)
