Sorry if this is the wrong place to send this, but
core <at> netbsd.org never replied.

I have an operational Sparcserver 490 system that's looking for a
new home. It has

        2 32 MB RAM boards
1 CPU board with LAN/KBD/Mouse interfaces
        2 1GB IPI-2 drives
        2 IPI-2 interface controllers
        1 Sun-3 SCSI host adapter

It's currently running SunOS 4.1.4 off one of the IPI drives.

I ran it one last time in October 2002 and everything was working then,

Re: new guy with problems

Hoe did you start sshd on the sun - '/etc/rc.d/sshd start' ?
(make sure you have sshd=yes in /etc/rc.conf)

DC6150 tapes

Anyone out there have a need for some DC6150 tapes?
I have a box full of them I'd like to get rid of. Free, just
pay for shipping (or pick them up, or meet me somewhere,
if you are in the area, Western CT).

ELC/SLC diskless station question

We have a few diskless ELC/SLC workstations at work, all of which
died after many years from the video going out (I believe the CPU is
functional, but most of them the display is either out or so dim as to be
unusable). I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience fixing them
or would have any interest in them if I *did* grab them and fix them?

If not, I'd think about grabbing the CPU boards and letting the rest get
trashed, and maybe running them just off the serial port with a rigged up
power supply. They do have serial and external SCSI ports.

Almost certainly the ones that are completely dead have dried out
electrolytic capacitors. Unfortunately it's common for such failures to
cascade to other components as well.

That would be an excellent idea! ;-)

Yes, and network. But don't just grab the CPU boards; it will help
immensely if you grab the (tiny) card the CPU board plugs into.

Read my page on decapitating SLC/ELC machines at
http://www.sunhelp.org/~mouse/ if you want more info on what I mean.

For what it is worth, the board in these machines is actually a
standard size. It is a 6U card. I had thought of getting a 6U card
cage and "clustering" a few ELC boards but I never managed to scrounge
a card cage.
