You probably need to have a disk which has SGI volume header - it's like a small partition where you could put some files and which PROM knows how to deal with. On Irix you can use fx to label the disk - I don't know what is used for that purpose by BSD folks. Or it could be that you have run out of space on that volume header - it's not very big. If you still have running Irix you can use dvhtool to examine the state of the volume header. max
