NetBSD and Performa 6360

Dear List:

This is my first post to this list.

I was doing some preliminary research into NetBSD and I came across the netbsd.org site with its mailing lists.

This is my first venture into this world, so I'm a complete novice. But at the same time, I am most curious
about
this world because I am trying to figure out ways of using my retired Performa 6360. Simply because it's old
doesn't mean it's useless. It can function in some capacity.

I understand that my Performa model is supported but has specific issues with NetBSD, one of which is with
its
built-in video card. To circumvent this issue, I understand that you can set up a serial terminal
connection with
another computer to install NetBSD. Instead of the serial terminal connection, can I incorporate my
Performa
6360 into my home network and install NetBSD from one of my Macs on the network? My home network
consists of a Power Mac G4 466, a Powerbook G4 1.25, and a D-Link DI-624 Wireless router.

My particular Performa 6360 has been modified. It still has its original 1.2 GB IDE hard drive, but it has
been
maxed out in terms of RAM (128MB), its internal modem has been removed and replaced with a COMM Slot II
Ethernet card, and its original 160 MHz processor has been upgraded with a Sonnet G3 400 card.

Has anyone on this list tried to install NetBSD on a Performa 6360? If so, what can you tell me about your
experience?

Any help or advice in this endeavour would be greatly appreciated.

Pegasos PowerPC port status

FreeBSD and NetBSD is still mentioned on the following webpage together
with ekkoBSD:
http://www.pegasosppc.com/operating_systems.php

Are there anyone working on these ports right now? How far have they
come? Both the Pegasos and Pegasos2? Would be intresting to hear how it
goes since I both love the various BSDs and would like to get a myself a
Pegasos2.

Re: Pegasos PowerPC port status

OpenBSD experianced some issues with them, part of the story is described at
http://openbsd.org/pegasos.html

More of the story from Dale:

More comments from someone else involved:

Please be careful when dealing with Pegasos.

Performa == Apple Macintosh Performa, right? In this case, you should
subscribe and post to port-macppc <at> netbsd.org. This message is posted to
both, with reply-to: set to port-macppc for your convenience (with the
full original message cited).

port-powerpc <at> is a list for technical discussions common to to all
NetBSD ports using PowerPC CPUs.

Boot hangs on PPC (Beige, G3, Desktop)

After installing NetBSD on my Power Mac, and setting the recommended variables
in the Installation Document, the OS hangs during the boot process. It looks
like this:

To continue booting from the default boot device type:

I would like my Power Mac to boot. Any ideas?

Something I didn't see mentioned else where, but that some of you might want
to know -- when I wrote the NetBSD floppy disk images (boot1.fs and boot2.fs)
using rawrite2 on a windows PC, I would get read errors when trying to use

sysinst , reinstall sets

I have tried a few times to install netbsd , on an O F 3 emac , my trouble
is in the 'reinstall sets or install aditional sets' option , It says wd0a
didn't mount successfully and aborts the installation . I've only used mac
os , so I don't know much about unix-like OS's , but I really want to get
the system installed so I can start getting my feet wet . Thanks for the
help!
