OK, I'll just leave it enabled on my pkgsrc bulk build machine, it at
least let me over the bump caused by the Linux compat packages
earlier.

Arguably, the bump's real cause is a lack of robustness in the pkgsrc
tools -- pkg_add should never half-install a package, leaving it in
such a state that pkg_delete subsequently can't delete the package.

i4b on NetBSD 4.0.1/macppc hangs

Hi,

I've installed NetBSD 4.0.1 on a PowerMac 7300 with a G3 CPU and a
PCI Fritz!Card 2.0.
I also compiled the latest version of i4b (http://turbocat.net/
~hselasky/isdn4bsd/index.html).
Now when I load the i4b module the machine hangs with the following
debug message:

pci_intr_map: pin:1, line: 23

spinning in ext_intr! 00000200
lpic 0:
state: 00000000
enable: 0285f008
clear: 00000000
level: 00802800
level_mask:	3ff00000
cascade:	00000000
panic: stuck interrupt
stopped in pid 1612 (modload) at	netbsd:cpu_Debugger+0x10:	lwz	r
0, r1, 0x14

I hope I correctly copied that from the screen :-)

Can anyone figure out what is going wrong here?

That's neither -current nor PCMCIA.

Re: Package binaries for NetBSD/macppc 4.0 / pkgsrc-2008Q4

Hi,

I've uploaded the new results of a bulk rebuild of pkgsrc-2008Q4
done on NetBSD/macppc 4.0 to

   ftp://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/powerpc/4.0_2008Q4/

A total of 3.4GB of packages were uploaded for a total of 1431
packages.

The list of packages which are available in new versions or which
were not available earlier is:

liboil-0.3.15nb1 and png-1.2.35.

The source tree this was built from was updated Feb 22, 2009. For
now I'll continue updating and rebuilding for the pkgsrc-2008Q4
branch for this arch/os/os-version.

For the packages which are not architecture-specific (should be
the vast majority), these packages should also be usable on other
powerpc ports.

- Håvard

Notes from installing on a G4 Mac Mini

Hi,

I recently installed NetBSD 5.0_RC2 on a macppc Mac Mini, in a
"NetBSD is alone on this system" mode. Here are a few notes, jotted
down while I still remember the few important points, to possibly
save people from frustration if they have the same goal. Please
note that these notes do not replace the installation instructions.

In my case I took out the original disk and replaced it with a brand
new 2.5" drive. Opening the case can be fiddly, and something which
would certainly void your warranty. But I'm guessing we're past the
point of worrying about that when we're considering installing
NetBSD as the only OS, right? :)

Of course, initially all boot attempts must be halted by holding
down Cmd-Opt-O-F until the screen lights up and OFW tells you to
release the keys.

First off, I started with the ISO image for 4.0.1. This is because
I have a vague recollection that the newer macppc ISO images are un-
bootable. I beleive/hope there is now a PR about the issue(?)

OFW has a "dir" command, and while it might be tempting to be
careful and look at what's on the 4.0.1 CD before trying to boot it,
don't bother. The file you need to boot, netbsd.macppc, is marked
as "hidden", so it will not show up on the "dir" output in OFW. I
have no idea why this is done, except to throw us poor unsuspecting
users a nasty curve-ball...

Boot with "boot cd:,\ofwboot.xcf netbsd.macppc".

and

src/distrib/cdrom should still work with some tweaks, though.
