Xhpc for hpcsh

I undefined CFB_NEED_SCREEN_PRIVATE in hpcFB.c and the resulting Xhpc
server runs on hpcsh (jornada 680). It still has issues, dumping core
here and there, but at least that's something already.

Good work Uwe!
I think it is really cool with such a little device running a real OS!
With X it will be even better. Real useful little device.

I am still struggling to get my 620LX in working order.

Jornada 680 German kbd missing < > |

Hi,

yesterday I installed 1.6.1. on my Jornada and all runs fine except
I can't get any of these characters < | > ³ [ ~ by pressing
ALT GR and the letter-key. Some of those "black" letters work,
like: \ ² { } ] <at>

I've set hpcboot.exe to use German kbd and also tried to set US-Layout
w/ wsconsctl -k -w encoding=US to US which allows me to use |<>
but switching back to German those characters disappear.

Am I missing something?

This is fixed in -current sys/dev/hpc/hpckbdkeymap.h revision 1.19.
-current also have other important fixes and improvements (working
keyboard "chords", touch-screen driver (yes, X is working), etc).

A snapshot of current with gcc3 is available at:

    ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/misc/uwe/hpcsh-20030924-gcc331/

I plan to make a new snapshot of -current soon. I'm waiting for a
patch for libc/ligcc issues to be committed.

WLAN on Jornada?

Hi,

Are there any supported WLAN PCMCIA cards?

NETGEAR MA401 is what I use and it works for me both under NetBSD and
WinCE.

I also had a couple of other cards working but I don't remember which
(borrowed them for short use at conferences &c). IIRC, one of them
was Orinoco.

I run successfully a D-Link DWL-650 on my Jornada (you have to configure
the kernel).

disklabel

hi,

I'm attempting to install netbsd on a jornada 690, and getting rather
confused. Using the 2003-09-24 snapshot from uwe's website, I've booted
the jornada and mounted a miniroot filesystem; currently, I'm trying to
label some CF to use, using disklabel from the miniroot fs:

# disklabel -i -I wd0
partition> P
16 partitions:
# size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg/sgs]
 a: 990704 10240 4.2BSD 0 0 0 # (Cyl. 10*- 992)
 d: 1000944 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 992)
 e: 10177 63 MSDOS # (Cyl. 0*- 10*)
parition> W
Label disk [n]? y
Label written
partition> Q

(Does this seem sane? This is 512MB CF)

Now if i run disklabel -i, the kernel prints "wd0: no disk label", and
disklabel shows:

7 partitions:
# size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg/sgs]
 a: 983040 16384 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 16*- 991*)
 d: 16352 32 MSDOS # (Cyl. 0*- 16*)
 e: 983040 63 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 16*- 991*)

This weekend I got a MA401 and tested it with 1.6.1 and the
hpcsh-20030924-gcc331 snapshot. On both systems I get:

NETGEAR MA401 Wireless PC, Card, Version 01.00 (manufacturer 0x0156,
product 0x0002) at pcmcia0, function 0 not configured

Shall I pass some options to the Kernel or am I required to recompile it?
If so, how do I have to configure the Kernel?

Don't know what Kernel Uwe included, but if it's GENERIC you have to
recompile the kernel.

> If so, how do I have to configure the Kernel?

Take /usr/src/sys/arch/hpcsh/conf/GENERIC as a basis. Copy the file with
a name you like.

Then a look at the

# PCMCIA network interfaces

section in /usr/src/sys/arch/i386/conf/GENERIC.

Include (copy the appropriate line!) the driver for your card in your
hpcsh conf file. Then build a new kernel. This is documented in

http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/kernel/#how_to_build_a_kernel

But as you need to cross compile, you should have a look at this nice
article, too:

http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/bsd/2003/06/05/Big_Scary_Daemons.html

The instructions are basically the same, but change "-m hpcarm" with "-m
hpcsh".
