Cross-compiling for VR4121

How does one supply the correct code generation options for VR4121 to build.sh
when cross-building src on i386? Incidentally, what are these options?
-mpcu=vr4100 -mips2?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dumb install question

Im trying to install on a large CF card in an NEC MobilePro 780. I have a
256Mb CF card in the machine (wd0) and hpcboot, sysinst kernel and installation
sets on a 64Mb CF card in the PCMCIA slot via an adapter. I can boot and get
into the install just fine. My problem is that I want to install the sets from
the 64Mb CF card (wd1) to the main CF card (wd0).

When prompted, I select wd1d FAT / as the media to install from but the mount
fails. Im probably doing something stupid ;-)

So how do I install from one CF card to another?

What do you mean by the above "/"?

One thing that comes to mind, you could start a shell from the
utility menu of the install program and from that mount the 64MB
card manually, type ^D to return to the install programm, and then
choose "local filesystem" or "mounted filesystem" as the install
source. Use /mnt2 as the mount point for the small CF card, or
create a new /mnt3 or so.

Good luck,
Bernd

Partition IDs

I have a CF card with a 2Mb DOS partition and the rest setup for NetBSD
(i.e. I have already installed NetBSD on the rest of the card). How do we
stop CE reformatting the drive when I reboot back into WinCE? Can I change
the sysid in the disklabel without destroying the NetBSD partition? If so, how?

I've never had that problem. Make sure that the DOS partition is the
first in the MBR. Windows (including CE) will silently ignore all other
"primary" partitions.

Re: [newbie] lcd suspend kernel for z50

I would also be interested whether the excellent suspend capabilities
of kernel netbsd-1.5ZC-z50tp-20020407A exist because of some
upstream-incompatible/nonportable hacks, or whether they could be used
for a self-compiled kernel.

However, NetBSD 1.6 just runs fine with the above kernel, and in
combination with the z50 hardware is a sheer delight (as I could find
out typing away a paper on a intercontinental flight + a long Greyhound
bus ride on one extended battery).

I noted that with netbsd-1.5ZC-z50tp-20020407A, the z50 sometimes
resumes from APM suspend into a crashed state, with vertical color
stripes on the screen. According to my unsystematic tests, that doesn't
seem to happen when running "sync" before suspend. Would it be possible
to implement this into the kernel itself?

Looking for applications

I'm busy trying to find some useful programs to use on my MobilePro 770.
So far I've just SSH'd into my main computer and used all the
applications there, but what is available to run on the machine itself?
I'm looking for a nice PIM type program to enter/retrieve contact
information, to-do lists, etc. I'm also looking for a sketchpad type
applications to jot down diagrams and the like using the touchscreen.
Another problem is that the programs need to be quite small in file size
since my CF card is 71% full. The final issue is the screen size of the
770 is 640x240 so most programs end up off the screen. Does anyone know
of some programs that I could try out? Thanks...

I have just finished installing NetBSD on a MobilePro 780 with a 256Mb CF
card. As you can imagine, space is at a premium here so no X, no man
pages, no text proc. tools, etc. This also means no Perl, so Ive had to
make do with tools that can use curses and don't need Perl. If you can do X
then you have more choices ;-)

My advice would be to go look through the packages and install binaries (Im
assuming you don't have the time or disk space to install pkgsrc).

What I did was install links (text curses-based browser) and then used that
to browse through the packages collection at
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/packages/pkgsrc/README.html

Each package page has binaries at the bottom - in most cases there are
hpcmips binaries available. I installed all the useful tools I could
find.

GPE and NetBSD/hpcmips

Has anyone attempted to get the GPE Palmtop Enviroment (
http://gpe.handhelds.org/index.shtml ) to compile and run under NetBSD?
Or if this project wasn't touched were any others like it attempted?

A good pim application for the console is sorely missing in the Free
Software world. - For contacts, you could compile abook or write a
simply shell/awk script for the task, for appointments and to-do lists,
you could use the standard BSD "calendar" utility.
