nopostinstall error while crossbuilding

hi,
i tried to crossbuild netbsd for my jornada a couple of times now, everytime
i try to do this i get the errormessage NOPOSTINSTALL=1 at the beginning at
the begining (or a little bit later) of the build.sh ....... distribution
command, i tried it on a already installed system or a new installed one,
everytime i cvsup the current src and then i build the toolchain but that's
the only thing that works, after a bad build i delete all the files and get
the newest srcs
here are 2 screenshots, the system is installed in vmware and it's netbsd
2.0 with current srcs

Re: nopostinstall error while crossbuilding

I had trouble cross-building -Current a few weeks ago from within
VMWare. Don't know if it's because of that, but after reusing an old
computer and building directly from an X86 environment it worked.

greets.

List of supported CF-cards in terms of booting (2.0-RELEASE)

Hello folks.

I've initiated a document in the German language about how to install
NetBSD to i.e. HP Jornada 720:
http://wiki.bsd-crew.de/index.php/NetBSD-hpcarm-Installation

What I would like to have confirmed are CF-cards that you have
experienced working with the 2.0-RELEASE "out of the box" (without the
softint.c in v1.9 compiled-in) in terms of booting.

These are cards not affected by the following problem:
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-hpcarm/2005/01/01/0000.html

Cards that I can confirm to boot without any problem, are these:
http://wiki.bsd-crew.de/index.php/NetBSD-hpcarm-Installation#Liste_vom_aktuellen_Release_.28Version_2.0.29_Boot-unterst.FCtzter_CF-Karten

If you can confirm more cards booting up under this circumstances, so
please write them to mailinglist. You can, of course, also expand the above
list (wiki) directly.

I think such a list would make it easier for people interested in
NetBSD/hpcarm to make the decision of which CF-card to buy.

Thanks!

I have used a Kingston Technology 512MB CF card with no problems. :)

Ok, I added both cards posted to this with a link to where this has been
confirmed:
http://wiki.bsd-crew.de/index.php/NetBSD-hpcarm-Installation#Liste_von_CF-Karten.2C_die_zum_Booten_unterst.FCtzt_werden_.282.0-RELEASE.29

Thanks.

Unfortunately, it's not quite this simple.

My employer ships a PC based rackmount box that boots off CF. We were
standardized on Sandisk 128MB cards but had trouble with some cards
causing the PC to fail to boot. The same thing with 256MB and 512MB
cards. The cards worked fine in our cameras and so forth. After some
diagnosis, we discovered that the actual flash devices inside were made
by different vendors (Toshiba vs some other name I couldn't remember).
We switched to Kingston and our problems went away; for a while... We
still have the occasional CF card that a PC won't boot from, but the
incident of occurence is far smaller with Kingston than it was with
Sandisk.

Re: List of supported CF-cards in terms of booting (2.0-RELEASE)

Hey.

I use a Kingston 1GB cf with the toshiba chip. This card was
discussed on this list earlier. It's signed with THNCF string,
which is written on one edge of the card itself. Also appears in
dmesg:

#dmesg|grep THNCF
wd0 at atabus0 drive 0: <TOSHIBA THNCF1G02MA>

This card works with NetBSD-current and NetBSD-2.0, but only when
compiled with version 1.9 of softintr.c. NetBSD-1.6 ran, but wasn't
stable at all.

I also have a 256MB Kingston which has a Hitatchi chip. This card
has worked fine with every release.

Cheers. Otto Waltari.

Hmm, ok. So it may be possible that between cards with a unique label and model
there are differing "internals".

Well, if it cannot be guaranteed to work I'll have to mark the list there
explicitely as being "without any warranty".

Thanks for this information.

Re: List of supported CF-cards in terms of booting (2.0-RELEASE)

Works with my Kingston 1gb Compact flash ultra :

wd0 at atabus0 drive 0: <SAMSUNG CF/ATA>

On Netbsd 2.0

Also on my standard Kingston 1gb , not sure what chipset it is, but
works on netbsd 2.0 also.

There is no performance difference between the ultra and the normal
either (not noticeable anyway).
