The restorecd uses stock i386 GENERIC kernel so it would be better
to ask about Parallels on port-i386, but did you choose "Disable ACPI"
on boot menu or not? Is it really attimer0 (which is at isa0),
not attimer1 (at acpi0)?

If it's one at isa0, it might be worth to disable isapnp0 on
userconf prompt:
- select "5. Drop to boot prompt" on boot menu
- "boot -c" on the ">" prompt on bootloader
- "disable isapnp0" and "quit" at "uc>" prompt on userconf(4)

Hiya.

I tried disabling ACPI, same result,
And disablng isapnp0 also still gives the same result.

I may have to resort to rummaging in the cupboards to see if I have
enough bits to make a PC :-)

I have read elsewhere that it is an issue with the GENERIC builds ..
but not seen any fix or workaround yet.

Thanks

At least with the Paralllels v2 that I use disabling Intel VT-x support
gets things going for general NetBSD operation. I hear that flag's not
available at least in the latest Parallels version.[1]

See here for a screenshot of what I mean:

[1] Not being able to disable this any more in current Parallels
versions, and the fact that Parallels v2 occasionally brings my
machine's CPU load to 100% after upgrading to Leopard on startup makes
me currently think about getting a Fusion license.

Perfect! See all I had to do was find the person who knew :-)

It now boots! Now to test it out :-)

Re: Qube2 with release-5 hangs, wapbl problem?

I never did this, but I noticed recent fixes in the release-5 tree so
I synched my source tree and built a new kernel.

I have not had a hang since I did this, and the machine has been
running far longer than it used to before when I had logging enabled.

This is very good news for me. I think I will try it on my i386
machine that has large filesystems now.

BIG hard drives on the Qube2

Hi there,

For peoples reference.

Those SATA -> PATA adapters that plug into the IDE socket on
motherboards also work with the Qube2, which should mean that 1TB+
SATA drives should install nicely.

The adapter installs with room to spare.

I've tested an 80GB SATA drive so far, but will be getting a 1.5TB one
on the weekend (my iTunes library is getting out of control :-)

Is there a known limit to what can plug into a Qube running NetBSD or
Linux ?

Regards

Mark

Suggestions for Gig-E NIC for a Qube2 ?

Hi there,

Does anyone know of a good gigabit NIC that would work in a Qube2 and
run under NetBSD ?

I'd like something that offloads as much as possible from the CPU
(since the Qube2 only got an itty bitty CPU :-)

Thanks!

Mark

- NetBSD kernel supports LBA48 so it should just work
- The cobalt firmware might not support LBA48 so Ext2 partition
to store bootloader should be smaller than 137GB
- NetBSD bootloader has LBA48 support in sources but it's disabled
by default, so you might have to recompile bootloader if your
root partition is larger than 137GB

Modifying the disk partitioning on the RestoreCD

Hi there,

Can someone point me at the script that works out how to partition the
drive of the Qube2 when the RestoreCD is netbooted ?

I want to change it so that it creates a semi custom partition
layout ... in preparation for putting in a 1.5TB drive.

Thanks

Mark
