Re: Mysql

If you follow the wiki (like I did) is going to work just fine, take some
time but it works.

Upgrading Qube2 3.99CD?

Hi There,

I wondered if anyone could tell me if it's still possible to use the
qube web interface after upgrading? I've got the 3.99 Restore CD
which I'm going to try, would it be possible to install the specific
packages to get the cobalt web interface? Or do you just have to put
up with loosing this once you upgrade to a newer version of BSD?

The only reason I want to upgrade is so I can use a disk larger than
30Gb. And perhaps run php & mysql.

Thanks in advance
Glyn

Re: Upgrading Qube2 3.99CD?

If i understand you correctly, you are running the original cobalt OS,
and using its web interface to manage it.

That being said, it uses an extremely old, modified linux kernel, so
most of its programs and configuration calls would not work anyway.
(so that particular interface will be lost)

However, there are web interfaces for configuring a server, such as
webmin, which can be installed if you install from the 3.99 restore
cd.

The netbsd restore CDs do not come with any of the software like the
original Cobalt OS did, but it is possible to configure it to do all
of the same things (and much, much more)

Hi,

I read somewhere that webmin causes the Qube to almost grind to a
halt. Would anyone here care to comment on this?

Pete.

Re: Upgrading Qube2 3.99CD?

I do not currently run webmin on my Qube, but I did in the past.
sure, it was not very fast because it was generating everything
dynamically with perl, but it did work just fine.

My qube has 128MB of ram, not sure how much of a difference that
makes, but another Qube I am helping a friend with only has 32MB, and
I am almost certain webmin would be much slower on that one.

Re: Upgrading Qube2 3.99CD?

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the replies, I've only just acquired the qube and I
want to get the basics up and running pretty quick.

I've done the install with the 3.99 CD and all seemed to go okay, so
now I've just got to set it all up. I really didn't have too much
time to look at it after I did the install but I did rlogin and do
"man afterinstall" but it said no manual was found.

I've found a few guides etc around (I'm not being lazy honest!) but
if people could post their links to any reading material they have
I'd appreciate it. I don't intend it do go under any heavy load but
what I really want to do it stick apache, php&mysql on it and also
samba. If poss a mail server too (can I use xmail?).

Is there anything I can do to get the lcd to do more than display the
IP of eth0? Getting the buttons going would be nice; I'm prepared to
be quite adventurous here.

Any other web based management utils out there?

Cheers
Glyn

Re: Upgrading Qube2 3.99CD?

Hi:

I used Webmin when my Qube was only 64 mbs and it took some time to generate
the pages, after I upgrade to 256 mbs it work a little bit more faster but
it was not big diference.

Setting up root. ..

Hi,

I'm trying to install netbsd/cobalt 1.6.1 on a Qube2. I'm using
ftp://ftp.fr.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/cobalt/restore-cd/1.6.1/image.iso.gz

The Qube2 netboots fine, sets up /var and /tmp, but seems to setup / for
even... The LCD says

Setting up root.
..

now for 2.5hours+

any hints ?

Thanks

Re: Upgrading Qube2 3.99CD?

Hi Everyone,

I spent a bit of time tonight and followed Pete Rushmeres guide to
getting the Qube set up, thanks for that Pete.

However I started to stumble a bit when I got to the section
installing samba and apache, I didn't even manage to find the source
to install these. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I had a look at samba.org and tried to get a tarball of the source,
but I just couldn't find it. There were instructions to getting it
from SVN but I haven't got an svn client on the qube, theres a CVS
though.

Any pointers, especially explicit ones for a dummy would really be
appreciated.
