Package binaries for NetBSD/alpha 4.0_BETA2 / pkgsrc-2007Q3

Hi,

I've uploaded the new files in the results of a bulk rebuild for
NetBSD/alpha 4.0 to

   ftp://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/alpha/4.0_2007Q3/

A total of 5.8GB of packages were uploaded, as this was the first
upload for the pkgsrc-2007Q3 branch.

The source tree this was built from was updated Oct 12 2007.

Regards,

- Håvard

Re: Replace AS200 power supply with ATX?

Miles, der Mouse, Anders,

Thanks for clearing this out for me. I still have not got it to work
though - the PSU does not power up when I try to switch it on. I have
checked the connections, (after getting a multimeter), so my suspicion
is that it could have something to do with the PS_ON and/or PWR_OK
connectors. Does anybody know if they do - and how to wire them in
that case?

Cheers,

Emil

Have you verified that the PSU powers up OK on its own? ATX supplies
are, in my experience at least, generally willing to power up with zero
load; just ground the "please power on" line. (This, again in my
experience, is a green wire going to the 2x10 connector, in the middle
of a bunch of grounds (black) on one side. It is a lighter (thinner)
wire than most of the wires to that connector.) Conveniently, there
are a bunch of grounds right next to it, so just a piece of wire bent
to fit between two adjacent pins should do the trick. Always has for
me, at any rate. :)

Re: Replace AS200 power supply with ATX?

Yes, I would agree that it has something to do with those signals.
PS_ON Should be low (grounded) to power up the PSU. PWR_OK is asserted
high (+5V) when all +12 VDC, +5 VDC, and +3.3 VDC voltages are within the
specs.

Since the AS200 MoBo seems to miss the PWR_OK input you will probably be
able leave that signal unconnected. Have you checked if the PWR_OK
signal is present in a second connector on the AS200 PSU? The PS_ON signal
should be connected to GND or to a On/Off switch that ties it to GND when
the switch is set to "On".

Cheers,
Anders

Yes, I just now checked this: the PSU does indeed power up when PS_ON

is grounded, I'll see what happens when I try to connect to the motherboard

with the grounding in place.

What happens when trying to power up the computer with the above grounding
is that the PSU powers on and the speaker beeps the pattern 3 + 2 + 3;
however I do not get any output on serial port or display. Hm.

And now when rtfm'ing I see that on page 4-9 in the "Digital AlphaStation
200 Series User information" we have a table of Error Beep codes! Will
poke around a bit more when I get home.

Machine check 660

Hello list,

Just a quick question: my Alphaserver has been giving "unexpected
machine checks" with vector 660, which, if I read the available
information correctly, indicates unrecoverable memory errors. Is there
any way to find out where exactly the memory errors occur, so that I can
replace that bank?

Thanks in advance,

  Jaap Boender

X no longer starts with kernel 4.99.37

I have noticed that recent kernels used with userland from a few months
ago break many
important functions such as ifconfig, netstat and dhclient to name a
few. However todays
new kernel 4.99.37 used with 4.99.33 userland renders X (xinit) useless?
xinit -> xf86MapVidMem : could not mmap framebuffer-why?
This is on alpha arch 164LX if it matters.

This sounds a bit more general than the lossage that happened - there were
small periods of current where compatibility was broken vs. previous and
future versions of -current - AFAIK.

Sorry, no idea.
