I left it powered off awhile, and then tried again. It made it
past fsck and then appeared to reset. Does the multia have a watchdog
timer that resets it?

Are there any known weak spots other than the infamous "heat death" chip?

re: Multia woes

Sounds like power connector problems.

Package binaries for NetBSD/alpha 2.1 / pkgsrc-2007Q2

Hi,

I've uploaded the results of a bulk rebuild for NetBSD/alpha
2.1 to

   ftp://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/alpha/2.1_2007Q2/

A total of 4.4GB of packages were uploaded.

Following our relatively recent policy, the 2006Q3 packages for
this platform will soon be removed; we keep only at most two sets
of binaries for each os-version / architecture.

The source tree this was built from was updated Jul 14 2007.

I have a new update to this lined up already, but it'll be a
couple of days until I can upload the result.

Regards,

- Håvard

Yes! Thank you!

I've never noticed the connectors being warm, much less hot.
(Unlike pretty much everything else in the box...) The plastic
is not discolored or deformed. However, the spring like connectors
have apparently lost their springiness and no longer make good
contact with the pins on the board. This is visible looking into
the end of the connector. I swapped out the base and P/S, and it
has been running for over 24 hours.

Any suggestions as to where to find high quality connectors?
No point in replacing them with the same low quality parts.

Mylex software timeouts

I've got a Mylex 1164DP installed in a 164LX running 3.1. Surprisingly, SRM detects
and happily boots from the controller.

However, it's pretty easy to get the system to crash with this card installed;
simply newfs'ing a large enough partition will do it. No panic, just a lot of
errors are spewed to console and then any disks attached to the card are unusable.

What I get looks like this:

ld1: I/O error - software timeout (0xdead)
ld1b: error writing fsbn 192527520 of 192527520 - 192527551 (ld1 bn 244956320; cn)

I've also noticed this line during boot, well before any trouble happens:

mlx0: unknown firmware init error 78:36:00

I can't rule out hardware failure, but the card works fine in the i386 box I
configured it in.

Any pointers as to where to start?

There is also Compaq Fortran - more interesting than C IMO.

IIRC Linux qemu can run linux/i386 binaries ("User emulation") which could
be an interesting feature.

There is also AlphaLinux version of realplayer.

XFree86-4.7.99.2 server builds on 3.0.2 source.

On an 164LX (21164) box, current XFree86.org source builds, yielding a
very fast and snappy server
using in my case a pm3 (glint) card. There are a minimum number of code
changes required to get the source to build. The number of pci cards
supported (SRM must first support your choice) continues to grow.
