vnlock() ..

I'm running into an issue with vnlock() showing up from time to time
basically causing the machine to have to be reset. I'm using

real player 8 support in mplayer commited

hi folks.

i just commited a new 'realplayer-codecs' package (only for i386, powerpc
and alpha) that installs the mplayer redistributed realplayer8 codecs,
and i've modified the mplayer packages to use MPLAYER_USE_REALMEDIA
variable from mk.conf. note that alpha generates LOTS of unaligned warnings
so you may want to `sysctl -w machdep.unaligned_print=0'.

enjoy!

XP1000 heating...

Hello,
I Teaded a dual pentium III for an XP1000.
I am surprised to notice that the XP1000 is quite hot and warm on hte
upper side of the chasis. I checked the CPU fan of the CPU and it works
well. Is it normal for the Xp1000 to being warm outside on the upper
side ?
Anyone experienced overheating problems with XP1000 ?
this model is 667MHz CPU.

thanks

Rick

Re: XP1000 heating...

Riccardo,

This is off the topic of your question, but my 21164 <at> 500MHz is very
cool (thanks RISC -- no fan on the heatsink, even) and the major
source of heat seems to be the power supply which is very beefy.
It's much cooler than my K6-2 450, if you can believe that.

An EV6 which the XP1000 has draws lots more power. My DS10 <at> 466MHz
is an interesting auxiliary heater..

Re: XP1000 heating...

I'm not sure if Alpha has always been this way. I've dubbed my AxpPCI-33
(166Mhz cpu) the "Mini-tower Space Heater". I can warm my sorta-large
computer room up with it. It also seems to draw a bit more power than my
Duron 750... which can also heat a room. My board did come without a fan,
but I strapped one on from fear of melting the board. The specs say they can
go up to 85 C before it kills iteself. <shudder>

HP C1599A on 3000/400

Dear port-alpha:

Has anyone used an HP C1599A DDS-2 DAT drive on a 3000/400? I've
tried the drive on two of these machines and it causes the SCSI test
at boot to fail as shown in the listing at the end of this message.
(For some reason SRM says it's a C1533A.) It seems to work fine
after booting manually despite this, but it's annoying that the Alpha
can't boot unattended in the event of a power failure.

The drive has the latest firmware installed and I've set the DIP
switches on the bottom to those recommended for DEC machines.

The DAT drive didn't produce any errors on an AS 200 4/166.

1020 or isp problem

Dear port-alpha:

When I use a Qlogic 1020 SCSI controller in my PWS 500 it's quite
common for these errors to appear on the console when copying files:

isp0: data overrun for command on 0.1.0
isp0: BOTCHED cmd for 0.1.0 cmd 0x2a datalen 65536
sd1(isp0:0:1:0): generic HBA error

dmesg's output for this card is:

isp0 at pci0 dev 12 function 0: QLogic 1020 Ultra Wide SCSI HBA
isp0: interrupting at dec 550 irq 8
scsibus0 at isp0: 16 targets, 8 luns per target

What's the likely cause of this, a faulty card?

The two or three DS10s i run (466 Mhz) throw quite a bit of heat. I've
had to park the rack in front of a window A/C unit to keep the DS10's
internal temperature sensor around 45C. I'm not sure what a "good" range
is for the machine, but i'd really rather see it around 40C. (The RMC
itself says that it sends warnings at 55C and shuts off at 60C.)
