Hard drive caddys wanted

Hi,

I'm mailing you on behalf of NetBSD.SE. Some of you may have heard of
us or used our services, for example anoncvs.se.netbsd.org or the
pkgsrc frontend at pkgsrc.se, to name a few.

I would like to ask if anyone has an excess of two hard drive caddys
for a Dell PowerEdge 2950 server? We are currently on need of such a
pair in order to install some more disk space in one of our servers.
We have the disks but lack the caddys :-I

The specifications are as follows:
Dell PowerEdge HD Caddy SATA 0H9122
   Dell P/N: CN-0H9122/ 0H9122 / H9122

So, if you have one or a pair of these, please send a reply and make
us happy ;-)

Kind Regards,

Leo R. Lundgren

netbsd 4.0 iwi0 woes

Hello,

My laptop, an IBM thinkpad x41, used to run -current from quite a way
before 4.0 was released, and I was reasonably content with it. For some
foolish reason I thought "hey, you should upgrade to 4.0", and so I did.

I built a 4.0 kernel from the same kernel config file I used previously,
fetched the 4.0 binary sets from ftp.netbsd.org, rebooted the new kernel
into single user mode, extracted the binary sets, ran postinstall and
etcupgrade etc. and rebooted.

Everything seemed to go ok, only my wifi interface didn't work -- the
old iwi-firmware package appeared not to be compatible. So I installed
iwi-firmware3. And was able to get a DHCP lease from my wifi router.

Only... after a few seconds, the laptop would no longer be able to reach
the default gateway (or anything else). Reliably, each time I restarted
networking, I would get a lease, be able to ping the gateway for about 3
seconds, and then the connection would drop.

Now for some odd reason I appear to have no problems staying connected
to my neighbors wifi router. When connected there, ifconfig tells me

        media: IEEE802.11 autoselect (OFDM18)

but when connected to my own wifi router, it's

        media: IEEE802.11 autoselect (DS2)

Which aside from the the bssid channel used is the only difference.

This works fine with an IBM thinkpad x43.

What security option do you use? I use plain 40bit WEP.

> media: IEEE802.11 autoselect (OFDM18)

says: 18 Mbps OFDM

Looks like the signal is poor. wlanctl iwi0 will show among other values
the signal strength (rssi).

Here, with a few meters distance I get rssi 51 and a OFDM54 connection.

None.

If I placed the laptop any closer to the wifi router, it'd be physically
touching it. :-)

This isn't a signal problem -- everything worked just fine before the
upgrade. Somewhere something changed so that after the upgrade my
interface can't stay connected to my wifi router.

So the one I can connect to is:

iwi0: mac 00:11:24:63:0b:e1 bss 00:11:24:63:0b:e1
        node flags 0004<scan>

        assoc-id 0 assoc-failed 0 inactivity 15s
        rssi 52 txseq 0 rxseq 0

The one I can't connect to (and which I'm sitting right next to, and
used to be able to keep a connection to for several years):

iwi0: mac 00:02:2d:3a:8a:e7 bss 00:02:2d:3a:8a:e7

That's 811.2g

That's 811.2b

I can try to disable 811.2g on my access point...

Some wireless routers do make a trouble mixing modes.
If not a secret, what is the brand of your router?
If possible, double or triple check additions you
made to router configuration. Also, try out wpa2 via
wpa_supplicant.
If all fails, try from the very start. Connecting
neighbor's wifi means it works fine.

No and no. :-)

Ok, the first 'no' is speculation. I just can't imagine a mailing-list
beeing that open. Can you imagine how may Viagra offerings we would have
on this list if anyone could just dump their stuff in here? I doubt very
much that posting without subscription is really possible.

The second no is based on the first one.
If you are referring to gmane, you can post via gmane, but that doesn't
do anything else than take the article and send it via mail to the list.
So basicly that would be the same thing that my local inn does as a
moderated list - only that another news server does it.

Or am I missing something here?

Regards
Chris

It's an orinoco.

That is my point: I haven't made any changes. The single change I made
was entirely on the client side (ie upgrading to 4.0). Everything used
to work just fine, and after the upgrade, it stopped working.

This is not something I'd expect from NetBSD.
