Dates on port-specific INSTALL notes

Each of the port-specific INSTALL.{html,ps,etc} files seem to possess a
date of September 7, 2002. Considering that they would have been updated
after this date for 1.6.1 and 1.6.2, is this correct?

Andrew.

"Supported Hardware Devices" lacking ISDN cards

http://www.netbsd.org/Hardware/ is lacking a list of ISDN cards in the
specific bus site. I parsed
	src/sys/arch/i386/conf/GENERIC_ISDN (1.13 2003/09/25)
and added the supported devices to {isa, pci, pcmcia}.html

I'm not definitely sure if they are machine-independent, I know
of alphas, sun ultra boxen and amigas running NetBSD with ISDN, so I
guess they are. If not, tell me and I will incorporate this list to
the i386 site.

Patches are attached.

2.0 Guide

Hello gang,

Yes it is the annoying me again :-)

I've seen rumblings of branches for the Guide, problems
with the Guide and 2.0 is coming up oh my!

Well, all of those issues are accurate and here is the deal,
I need some help/decisions/votes from everyone to see how we
can tackle some issues.

1) Should we branch or just include a 2.0 compliant version
of the guide at shipping time? I do not know the best answer,
but, many of our CD makers are shipping the Guide. That really
pushes me towards branching (which cracks me up, 2 years ago I
would have been dead set against it but we are getting popular!).

2) Problems
Hubert's network page is still broke, the next link does not work.
Also, we need to toss out the install walk through page with the
images. It is sorely out of date, yes, we can redo it, but
not *now*, for now, toss it.

So here is the good news.
Those are the only issues I am aware of which is a far cry from
where we stood a year ago.

Good job to all of you.

I would say target 2.0 now, and at least for the next few months.
Maybe four months on we might look at branching, but given the
available resources its probably best not to try to maintain
	two guides at this point.

Hmm - maybe conditional statements in the guide? :)

Don't branch - too much maintenance effort, and it's not like there's
constant updates. We can always do it if someone wants to do a major
rewrite for 2.1/3.0.

Um, dunno what that is, because i have another issue:

3) the build process is not very transparent.
when typing 'make', it should be checked if the pkgs needed to do the
translation are installed, and if not a warning with instructions should
be printed.

right now I'm getting:

	miyu% cd /usr/cvs/htdocs/guide/en/
	miyu% make
	env SGML_CATALOG_FILES= XML_CATALOG_FILES=/usr/pkg/share/xml/catalog /usr/pkg/bin/xsltproc
--nonet --catalogs --param manifest "'HTML.manifest'" --param toc.section.depth "'1'" --param
toc.max.depth "'8'" --param generate.section.toc.level "'0'" --param section.autolabel "'1'"
--param section.label.includes.component.label "'1'" --param netbsd.url.image.bsddaemon
"'../../images/BSD-daemon.jpg'" --param netbsd.url.disclaimer "''" --param html.stylesheet

Re: 2.0 Guide

P.S. On the install screenshots etc.: it would be nice if someone could
redo them (using a bochs install or so).

 I think so, too.

Sorry, I am working on it but it does not finish yet. Probably I can commit
the results this weekend or in the next week.

The plan was to do some XML magic to convert parts of the standard release
documentation (INSTALL.*) to a guide chapter. As far as I am concerned we
can ditch the installation screenshots when the chapter is made up to date
for NetBSD 2.0, because they only have little value. The user will see
exactly the same thing on his/her screen (if the screenshots are
up-to-date), so a good description of what the on-screen information means
is much more important. The screenshots are only confusing if something
changed and leaving them out is good for modem users too...

Just my 2 buckazoids ;).
