Please review 1.6 Release Announcement translation

Hi all,

Once more I'd like to ask all of you to review the translation of the
1.6 Release Announcement and to synch it with the english version. The
1.6 Release seems to be very, very, *very* close indeed, and it would be
most desirable to have the release announcements be as excellent and
multi-lingual as the 1.5.3 announcement (thanks to all!).

All patches against anoncvs's htdocs module can be sent to me - I will
apply them promptly.

Thanks,
-Jan

I have a few changes to the English announcement which I can't commit
because I am unable to reach cvs.netbsd.org. I'll commit them as soon
as possible.

Please anybody who has commit right keep
htdocs/Releases/formal-1.6/NetBSD-1.6.html in sync with
basesrc/distrib/notes/common. Don't forget to do pullup request to
pullup-1-6<at>netbsd.org after you have modified it.

I was quite careful not to modify anything in the web announcement
that vastly differs from the notes. The only thing which falls into
this category is the number of binary releases - the notes claim the
number of binary releases is 38, it's actually 39.

releng-1-6 are ok with this.

Re: Please review 1.6 Release Announcement translation

I wonder should the announcement cover changes between 1.5 and 1.6 or
between 1.5.3 (which is official release) and 1.6?

For example, the announcement says:

init(8) will create an mfs (memory based file system) /dev if
 /dev/console is missing.

This already exists in 1.5.3 (since February). I use it almost every day
with my 1.5.3 bootable CDs.

I believe this change was pulled up for 1.5.x, and did not exist in
1.5.

As this is a major release, it makes sense to include a summary of
changes between major releases, and this change falls into that
category, as far as I can tell.

Yes, I understand that it was a new 1.5.x feature. (I tried to explain
that with "since February".)

I believe it should also have a summary of changes between the current
official release (1.5.3) and 1.6, because it may be confusing to mention
features that aren't really new because they may have been in official
1.5.1 (or whatever) for over a year (for example).

NetBSD 1.6 has been announced.

Again, a big thankyou to everyone involved in translating the release
announcement. We have 9 (!) translations for this release as well as
the English version.

Great work, guys!

Re: Please review 1.6 Release Announcement translation

Great work, but could someone fix

http://www.netbsd.org/Releases/formal-1.6/

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Information about NetBSD 1.6

NetBSD 1.6 is the ninth major release of the NetBSD operating system,
and is currently in the pre-release stage.

The netbsd-1-6 CVS branch is currently at 1.6_RC3. As this is a
release candidate, only critical bugs are expected to be fixed before
the release.

If you're confident, you can build NetBSD from source or use the daily
binary snapshots and perform testing on your system(s).

Note: Although the netbsd-1-6 branch is currently very stable, it
should not be considered to be production quality until the final
release.

Thanks

Andreas

You have been served a cached version of this page. Please re-load it
to ensure you have the latest version.

You should be seeing index.html revision 1.11.
