Urgent: geneweb - stripped binaries don't work

G'day,

I've updated and tested the pkgsrc/database/geneweb package locally and ran
into a problem that appears to be related to the stripping of optimized ocaml
binaries... (pkgsrc/lang/ocaml). Are there any known issues?

We need to upgrade pkgsrc/databases/geneweb as a matter of urgency as it
contains code that may comprimise the security of the host system.

A copy of the updated package sources and sample binaries can be found on

I don't think so. As I see it, there are two cases when a program depends
on Xft2 (or any other package providing .pc files):
1) The program uses its own link flags and paths to link to the library,
   thus pkgconfig is not required.
2) The program uses pkgconfig to determine the flags and paths, so it
   requires it to be present.

It is up to the program beeing built to determine if it requires pkgconfig
to autoconfigure itself or not... But well, that is my point of view, so
I can be wrong ;)

pkg_delete error message


Hi  all

What does the folowing error message mean?

pkg_delete: cannot open /var/db/pkg/pkgdb.byfile.db: Inappropriate file type
or format

This happened after I did 'pkg_admin rebuild'.  How can I fix this?

problem with pkg_chk -i

fonts/Xft2 problems

I had some problems getting xscreensaver to build a package a few
weeks ago, so I updated all my pkgsrc tree and tried again.  This
time I ran into this little problem with Xft2:

This is on a SparcStation with running -current that is a month or
two old.  I'm guessing that this is some XF86-3 vs. XF86-4 problem
but I know little about that, since I don't have a lot of different
machines or graphics hardware to play with.  Any one have a suggestion
for a fix?

Did you actually take a look at mk/buildlink2/bsd.buildlink2.mk? It
seems as if the file is broken because of a CVS conflict. The output of
your 'cvs update' command should have told you about that (see man page
for 'cvs', section about 'update').

Actually, i agree with you and think the same argument applies to
all the other packages that provide .pc files.  But when i saw
that all but Xft2 include the pkgconfig buildlink file
themselves, i thought the decision had already been in the other
direction.

I am arguing only for consistency.

And it's quite annoying.

I recently looked into this.  According to the GNOME folks, you
can install the two versions side-by-side as long as you install
GNOME 1 first.  Furthermore, Debian manages to ship both versions
(libs only; they have switched to GNOME 2 for all apps with both
versions available (e.g. Nautilus)).  So what is pkgsrc doing
wrong?  I found the same thing Cesar Catrian found: that the only
conflict is between gnome-mime-data and gnome-vfs-1.  Remove this
conflict and everything is fine.

Only these changes need to be made:

databases/gnome-mime-data:
    Remove gnome-vfs-1* conflict.

sysutils/gnome-vfs:
    Add a dependency on gnome-mime-data.

    Don't ship these files:
