Re: NetBSD on MacBook 4.1

Also, I forgot the dmesg log.

Here it is:

NetBSD on MacBook 4.1

Hello all! I have MacBook 4.1 (Early 2008) and I have installed NetBSD
5.1.2 (updated kernel and userland to NetBSD-current) on it recently.
I do not have Mac OS X nor any other OS on it, and I don't plan to
install any other, I will stick only to NetBSD.

But I need your help. Well, first I am thankful that NetBSD isn't
giving me kernel panics with ACPI, because I have tried FreeBSD and
DragonflyBSD, and they both give me kernel panics even though there
are some *more* drivers for my MB.

So, I am asking you if MacBook users can expect better hardware
support with NetBSD 6? Here's what's unsupported (at least things
which I know of):
- Apple SMC (driver available in FreeBSD)
- Broadcom BCM43xx (driver available in OpenBSD, DragonFlyBSD; I don't
know if it works; broadcom_sta hybrid driver for Linux released by
Broadcom)
- Apple Touchpad (driver available in FreeBSD; doesn't work like it
should, but it's okay)
- iSight
- Fan control (if apple smc gets ported, I believe a fan control
daemon would be an easy thing to do)
- HDA Intel Sound (not working as of this moment, but I think I have
found some solution on the net)
- Apple-specific keyboard keys mapping
- intel video seems to be supported, but there are some *glitches*

This looks like a long list, but I would put audio and wireless on top
of the list because those are the things that I need the most. :)

Intersystem build environment questions

I've received feedback from Harvard. What I want is to be sure that I
understand the concept and can execute it correctly.

http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.c...3.freebsd-java

I have SSH set up to log into the iMac running Debian. The assumption
is that the script is run on the iMac and it is exported to the
QuickSilver.
Is the SSH setup right? PMac to iMac? Also assume that the script is
run on the iMac and I am running a simple SSH user <at> . Is it
$EXPORTED_ENV to $WORKING_DIRECTORY or $EXPORTED_ENVIRONMENT

ln -s

$USER_BINARY_PATHS?

.
I have Debian running on an iMac G4 and FreeBSD running on a QuickSilver G4.

1. The assumption is that the script is ran on the iMac. Considering
that SSH between both machines is set up, is the exporting:
a) From the iMac to the QuickSilver.
b) The inverse of the above.
And
c) Is it ran from the same terminal used for the SSH login
d) Or from another terminal connected on the target to the SSHed login?

If the exporting is done such as stated in d above, then how do I set
that up properly?

FOSDEM 2012 - BSD Licensed Operating System Developers Room

We have a Devroom at FOSDEM 2012, which takes place on February 4-5
in Brussels, Belgium. The Devroom will mainly cover topics for BSD
Licensed Operating System users, developers and contributors. For more
information about the Devroom, please see:

http://wiki.freebsd.org/201202DevRoom

For more information about FOSDEM, please see the website at

http://www.fosdem.org/2012/.

We are now accepting proposals for talks. Each session will last 30 to
60 minutes (including discussion). Please note that we only
accept talks in English.

Talks about developments in particular operating systems are welcome
as are talks or forums on ways we can work together. We also welcome
presentations on foundational technologies which are of interest to
developers of BSD licensed operating systems and presentations on

Flagging pf

Is there any reason that /etc/rc.d doesn't use the ${pf_flags} variable?

Ambient light drivers

Hi.

Together with Grégoire we tried to get an ambient light sensor on his laptop
to report something for the operating system. But we failed.

Couple of drivers were written in the process. I'll post them here so that
these are archived if someone finds them useful some day. The first one is
an ACPI driver identified with the ACPI0008 PNP string. The second one is
an I2C driver for the ISL29018 chip from Intersil.

Regarding the ethernet port led up/down status

Hi All,

When i down the ethernet port from the command prompt, the ethernet
led continue to glow, not off or change the color to amber.

ifconfig wm0 down -> led status green
ifconfig wm0 up -> led status green

PHY: intel's 82578.
Kernel: NetBSD 5.1

Is this expected behavior?
Kindly advice...

Thanks,
Gnana
