NetBSD 2.0 DVD

Hello List,

I have managed to put NetBSD 2.0 (i386) on a DVD including all binary
packages. This is especially interesting for all, who do not have a fast
internet connection but far more interesting, for all, who like to setup a
NetBSD 2.0 and install all necessary packages (like gnome, kde, koffice),
quite fast.
I could contribute the iso image and would be happy if a DVD iso image would
be available for download on ftp.netbsd.org

Best Regards, Zafer.

Please see the "precompiled" part of
http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/pkgsrc/submit.html#id2614698:

``Our policy is that we accept binaries only from pkgsrc developers to
guarantee that the packages don't contain any trojan horses etc. This is
not to annoy anyone but rather to protect our users! You're still free
to put up your home-made binary packages and tell the world where to get
them. NetBSD developers doing bulk builds and wanting to upload them
please see Section 5.3.8, Uploading results of a bulk build.''

That aside, I'm curious to hear how you got all the packages on a DVD -
IIRC last time I tried to do that for what came out of a bulk build from
the pkgsrc-2004Q4 branch, it didn't fit on a DVD any more. (Then again I
also put i386 install sets on that, maybe that was too much).

NetBSD 2.0 test drive at HP site

I noticed this on the HP test drive site this morning:

====
http://www.testdrive.hp.com/ January 20, 2005

We have just upgraded NetBSD to version 2.0 on a ProLiant DL360. This
system has two 1.2 GHz Pentium III processors, 2 GB of memory, and over
25 GB of space in /tmp for local compiles. Learn more about NetBSD, or
sign up and give it a try!
====

Kudos to whomever helped get this upgrade done!

..though currently in registration there's only "NetBSD 1.6 on ProLiant
DL360" and no 2.x :) Hope HP people will add it soon.

One account gets you in, so once you are registered, telnet to
spe143.testdrive.hp.com will be 2.0.

It would also be nice if HP used the new logo. I'll drop them a note.

Southern California Linux Expo + good handouts?

So, NetBSD has a booth at the Southern California Linux Expo next week,
February 12 & 13. I'll be there, and a fellow developer is going to be
there as well. If we have any Southern California (the expo is in
downtown LA) NetBSD folks who wouldn't mind spending a few hours working
the booth, let me know!

But on to the real question -- is there a standard one-page NetBSD
handout that I can use? I'd like to have something simple, in black and
white (I can't really afford color copying) that I can hand out to folks
who have questions.

Similarly, I can remember several interesting posters that folks have
made over the years for NetBSD -- where can I find these? Are there any
other booth resources available?

Thanks!

Great - thanks a lot. Our www team will put this on our events
calendar.

See http://www.netbsd.org/gallery/advocacy/

The flyer should be updated to 2.0, as it's a bit old.

I also have a number of old NetBSD T-Shirts and a handful of these old
flyers that I'd be happy to ship to you to sell and hand out.

Send me your postal address in a private mail and I'll try to get the
shirts out this week.

I guess with a bit more time for preparation, you could have organized
things like t-shirts (cafepress) etc.

I've also said them to use GENERIC.MP since that's an MP box, but
until now they did nothing...
